Slum gutted in fire

Kolkata, 24th April,23: A massive fire broke out at a slum in Salt Lake this evening destroying several shanties and luckily
injuring none. According to police report, the fire might have caused due to a cylinder blast at around 7:40 pm and the blaze
engulfed rapidly densely populated slum within a few minutes. It caused great panic and people initially started running
helter and skelter. Fire Brigade was immediately called in and ten fire tenders were pressed into service to put out the flame.
Local people and slum dwellers also joined hands to expedite the process. After a battle of two hours fire was brought under
control. Though all the residents were safely brought out from the slum area, the fire already swallowed several shanties
rendering the dwellers shelter less. The state Govt. extended relief to the victims and assured rehabilitation to those who lost
their homes in destructive blaze. Though an FIR was lodged and investigation was launched from the end of police.
