ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE’S ESSENTIALITY ON SCHOOL ASSIGMENTS

By Joanne Marie C. Esperal 10-SPJ

Is banning of Artificial Intelligence in school assignment essential?

The banning of Artificial Intelligence had spark concerns between students, some was in
favor of the ban but some are also against the banning. But before everything first AI refers to
computer systems capable of performing complex tasks that historically only humans could do such
as searching, making decisions, or solving problems. Therefore, banning AI is not essential
especially in terms of school assignments, and here’s why:

First, banning of AI limits student from learning and accumulating new-found knowledge. AI
has potential to improve accuracy, efficiency, and fairness in students learning- all according to Inna
Nomerovska of Keymakr.com on her composition: “How AI is impacting on education system”. AI
also offer other learning materials unavailable inside the school for students to base their works
from. And lastly AI introduces and awakens independent learning within students.

Second, banning of AI is inadvisable especially in this time of technology. Because AI serves

as the training ground of students for more technology-based future according to Beuvy Sanga of
Medium on AI banning in school. AI tools also helps with mutual collaboration of students with
their teachers especially in times of pandemic before. And AI is now globally known so it still can
affect us whether we want it or not.

And lastly, AI offers personalized learning. Because not all students are the same, they differ
from one another (visual learner and auditory learner) and these students cannot really be looked
out by some of their teachers, that is when AI connects them all to be one.

Meanwhile, others would say that enabling AI particularly in school assignments would bring
students into relying, that “we slowly lose our traditional way of teaching”, that AI brings large
numbers to the decrease of human interaction, inequality in access and plagiarism. The list might
still go on, but banning AI is not the right choice, we people should also be a responsible user and
regulate ourselves. Self-discipline to be exact is the way we can harness the advantages. Yes, those
concerns you have are valid but we can solve these problems while addressing its risks not
everything can be solved by eradication.

And again, I say that banning of AI particularly in school assignments is not essential and is
not the right choice to be made. Because AI allows student from acquire new-found knowledge, it is
inadvisable especially in this time of technology and lastly AI offers personalized learning for
students. So instead of banning AI why not just teach ourselves to be responsible and use it for the
better, always remember the quote ‘you reap what you sow’.
