IN a shocking incident
in Miryalaguda, a young
woman narrowly escaped a
rape attempt with the help
of her maternal aunt. The
perpetrator, identified as
Arif, who has ties to the rul-
ing party Student Union, is
currently on the run.
According to SI Kristai-
ah, the victim, residing with
her mother at her grand-
mother’s house due to pa-
rental disputes, found her-
self targeted by Arif, who
was staying in the same
household. Arif, claim-
ing a familial relation, had
been pressuring the young
woman through his sister-
in-law, Chand Sultana, to
marry him.
Facing resistance from
the victim, he hatched a
plan. He sought the support
of Sultana. When the young
woman was alone in her
room, Sultana facilitated
Arif ’s entry and closed the
door behind him.
In a courageous act of
self-defense, the young
woman bit Arif ’s hand,
prompting him to release
his grip. Seizing the op-
portunity, she fled from the
room. Fearing reprisal, she
was confined in her room
for two days by Sultana.
However, escaping under
the cover of darkness on
Wednesday night, the vic-
tim sought refuge with her
father and paternal grand-
mother in another colony.
Recounting the harrowing
incident, she shared the
details, leading to the reg-
istration of a case against
Arif and Chand Sultana at
Miryalaguda two town po-
lice station.
The investigation is cur-
rently underway, with the
police confirming Arif ’s
absconding upon learning
about the charges. Notably,
Arif had previously held a
position as the district lead-
er of the ruling party’s Stu-
dent Union, adding a politi-
cal dimension to the case.
