Fundamentals And Food Technology

Module 3

Activity 1

1. Why food processing and Food preservation is important?

The physical or chemical conversion of uncooked components into consumable food

products is known as food processing. Food deterioration is slowed or prevented using a

variety of techniques, including drying, freezing, pickling, and irradiation. Foods can be

preserved so that people can transport them farther, store them for longer periods of time,

and consume them with more nutrients still present. During processing, pathogens

(disease-causing organisms) that could contaminate food can also be suppressed or killed.

2. How do you preserve your food? What do you think is the best method used in food

Preservation? Why?

I used to reheat meals to preserve it. But for the time being, I think freezing is the greatest

way to preserve food because it stops the growth of germs and reduces the action of the
enzymes that make food degrade. People frequently utilize it to preserve their stuff as

well.

Activity 2

List down the market forms of food packaging and explain each.

1. Paper is a sort of pulp that is frequently used to package items that are solid.

2 . Sand, limestone, ash soda, and recycled glass are all ingredients in glass.

3. It is made of metal, primarily steel that has been chrome- and tinplate-coated. Both steel

and aluminum are employed.

4. Ceramic: it is made of clay, has a high silicate content, or has the option of being burned

with organic elements.

5. Formaldehyde and melamine are monomers that are co-polymerized to generate

melamine. Urea-formaldehyde is less costly, more heat sensitive, and more easily

distorted.

6. Plastic is a group of organic macromolecule compounds created via polymerization,

polycondensation, or chemical alterations to macromolecules found in nature.

Reflective Analysis

The significance of food processing and food safety will be covered in this session.

Understanding what foods need to be treated and how to preserve them will aid in this
understanding. We must learn more about these teachings because we have a lot of things to

consider and prioritize.
