THEME

ENGLISH-9-Q4
DEFINITION OF THEME

A theme is a central topic, subject, or message within a narrative. Themes

can be divided into two categories: a work's thematic concept is what
readers "think the work is about" and its thematic statement being "what
the work says about the subject".
theme in literature
Refers to the underlying message or main idea that the author
explores through the characters, plot, and setting of a story. It often
reflects universal truths or insights about human nature and society.
Theme relates to the meaning
of a painting, rather than the
theme in visual subject, which is specific and

arts basic. A theme is deeper and

broader and conveys
something more universal.
Mood is the atmosphere in a
painting, or the feeling
expressed. It influences the
choice of subject matter, style,
and techniques used to
convey meaning and evoke
emotions in the viewer.
theme in film
and televisions Our script theme needs to carry both the
weight of the story and a connection to the
audience. A theme is the idea, premise, or
purpose of a movie. It is the whole reason
why movies are made. The theme is the
heart of the movie.

various aspects of human experience. It can relate to personal values,
societal norms, cultural trends, or philosophical beliefs that shape how
individuals perceive and interact with the world around them.
