One day Bear went for a walk.
Two hunters were hunting.
They saw Bear.
Look out! Look out, Bear!
Quickly Bear began to draw.
Well done, Bear!

But there was another hunter.


Run, Bear, run!
Out came Bear's pencil.
And Bear walked on.
Stop, The hunter's back
Swiftly Bear got to work,
Lookup, Bear!
Bear is caught.

But Bear still had his pencil .

Do something, Bear!
So Bear escaped
. . . and the hunters were left far, far behind.
ANTHONY BROWNE was born
in Sheffield, England, and studied
graphic design at Leeds College of Art.
He left in 1967 determined not to be a
graphic designer and became instead a
medical artist at Manchester University,
where he "produced delicate watercolors
of bone, tissue, fat and blood."
Now he is a freelance artist expressing
himself through children's picture books
and earning a living designing greeting
