INTERVIEW TRANSCRIPT

Ms. Tizon: “Hello, good morning. We're architecture students from Mapua Malayan Colleges,
Laguna, and we're here to conduct an interview as a partial requirement for our values education
course.”

Mr. Soniega: “To start the interview, please state your name, age, and occupation.”

Engr. Soniega: “I'm Omar Soniega, I'm 49 years old, and I am one of the senior managers in Globe
Telecom.”

Ms. Tizon: “For question number one, what is your company's vision that has a positive impact on
others or contributes to the environment as part of its social responsibility?” (Question 1)

Engr. Soniega: “Actually, Globe Telecom has lots of goals when it comes to social or environmental,
social responsibility. Um, Pinaka current ngayon is yung avoidance or minimization of carbon
footprint. Which is, ang ginagawa namin is, yung mga sites ng globe, we are trying to have it 100
percent solarized.
So, may mga iba pa, there are other things na
ginagawa ng globelight. Uma-attend kami ng “Gawad Kalinga” for building houses for the poor. So,
tumutulong kami dun para hindi lang engineer, hindi lang architects, or other professionals, pero
bilang isang karpintero, mason.
And other things, many things pa na ginagawa ng company para
makatulong dun sa community or the environment.”

Mr. Reyes: “What values do you believe that makes you a socially responsible individual?”
(Question2)

Engr. Soniega: “Hmm… for me, saakin, kahit yung simple pagtapon ng basura, yung mga gulay
plant box dun. So, little things, but big impact kung marami ang gagawa. Siguro yung segregation
So,
yung mga ganung maliliit na bagay nakakatulong. Pati pag gamit ng sachet; halimbawa, shampoo,
soap, I prefer yung bote, instead of, yung mga sachet. Kasi pag tinignan mo, meron mang cost
maganda yung bote at least mas madaling i-recycle. So…, and many things in mind.”

Ms. Penaranda: “Are there specific resources or training programs you recommend to colleagues to
enhance their awareness of ethical considerations in the workplace?” (Question 3)

Engr. Soniega: “Maging ano lang… mag karoon lang ng respect for each individual, mapa CEO ka,
mapa maliit ka, or a staff. May kanya-kanya kasing contribution yan e. So, parang ang sample nyan
pag gawa ng bahay. Sa pag gawa ng bahay, ang bawat isa should be treated, unique, and should have
the contribution sa buong bahay. So, kapag ako, yung mga tao, I’m always saying na, kapag may
ginagawa tayong bahay, pag tinanong mo sila, pag sinabi nila is “Anong trabaho mo?” “Mason po
ako, nag le-layer ng brick.” So, ang sinasabi ko sakanila is, we are building house. So, hindi kalang
So, on that level of respect, dapat ang pag gagawa
bilang isang leader ay, I see to it na mai-apply yun sa environment ng workplace. So, mapa-field, sa
mga tao ko na engineers or architects na under me. Pag magaling ka sa isang bagay, I respect that and
I see to it na makakacontribute ka base dun sa talent na forte ng isang individual. So, ganun ko siya
tinitignan. Mai-imposed yung work ethics dun sa working environment.”

Mr. Baraquel: “Can you share your personal perspective on the importance of work-family balance
for overall well-being and productivity?” (Question 4)
Engr. Soniega: “Minsan sa Globe or sa work ko, medyo pressure dyan. So, minsan medyo mahirap i-
balance. I see to it na simple, magkakasabay kumain, pag may time pumunta ng mall, kahit syempre
magtulak ng trolley, gustong gusto… right now, as long as kumpleto, sisimba, halimbawa, o kaya

Mr. Soniega: “How do you approach budgeting and expense tracking to ensure financial stability and
growth?” (Question 5)

Engr. Soniega: “Basta ang importante dyan wag gagastos ng… you should not spend more than what
you are earning. Tapos, credit cards, nakakatulong, but of course, may control dapat yun. So, anything
na sobra sa kinikita, it becomes a disaster in terms of financial management. Dapat, as much as
possible nakaka save. Para… for the future. So, may savings, may daily expenses, tapos hindi dapat
lalampas. Ganun lang, simple math lang yan. You should not spend more than what you earn.”

Mr: Soniega: “Are you well-versed in the current affairs of your community? Are there any situations
where you were able to relate to? If so, how do you engage with and contribute to community
initiatives meaningfully?” (Question 6)

Engr. Soniega: “Communities… for example, here in our subdivision, so if there are some concerns,
for example; mayroong lumilipad na yero. I see to it na, na kapag kung… ako mismo ang individual
That’s one, kapag nagkaroon ng mga meetings on the
association.
Nag wo-work
ako sa isang construction na ang safety is very important. So, dun ako naka… palaging… why
particular sa ganung bagay, pati dito sa bahay”

Ms. Tizon: “Thank you po, for this wonderful opportunity. Yun lang po.”

Engr. Soniega: “Tapos na?”

Ms. Tizon: “Opo. hehehe…”

Justine Margarette Peñaranda

During the interview with Engineer Omar Soniega, I've come to recognize the pivotal role
that our values play in shaping our lives. It's crucial to establish these values early on, as they spread
through every aspect of our life, influencing our actions and interactions. Our values serve as the
foundation for responsible conduct, both in our professional endeavors and personal relationships. It's
essential to ponder and identify our core beliefs sooner rather than later, as they profoundly impact
how we engage with others. Responsibility doesn't simply begin and end with our work obligations; it
extends to all aspect of our lives, especially as we take on more responsibilities with age and family
commitments. However, there is only so much a person can handle, and we cannot simply take on all
responsibilities blindly. That is why having a clear set of values can help us prioritize our tasks and
obligations effectively. As a professional, our interviewee holds the responsibility of serving as a
senior manager, tasked with managing their team and ensuring the integration of their company's
mission and vision into all aspects of their operations. Simultaneously, in his roles as spouses and
parent, he serves as role model not only for his family but also for the wider community. He also
emphasized that regardless of one's brilliance and expertise, there will always be individuals with
deeper knowledge, whether in a different field or through life experiences. What truly counts is
maintaining humility and embracing the opportunity to learn from others. At the end of the interview,
I learned that values aren't static; they evolve as we encounter diverse experiences and interact with
different individuals. Each interaction presents an opportunity for growth and learning, reinforcing the
idea that our journey of self-improvement never truly concludes.

Kendrick Omar Soniega

The interviewee answers that most mind-boggling for me is being socially responsible is by
simply starting in small ways. Start by proper segregating the trash and buying a 1 bottle shampoo
instead of sachets of shampoo can reduce in consumption of plastics to our community. Making small
changes by one person if all of us are doing the right thing by simple things that can help the world
will have a huge positive impact such as prevention of global warming, climate change and pollutions.
Additionally, I am happy that the Globe company’s vision is adapting and finding ways to reduce the
carbon footprints and other things that can affect negativity of the environment. I’m rooting for the
success of Globe’s vision and will help other people in the future generations. The most unforgettable
lesson that I have learned in the construction company, for example, was the importance of treating
everyone with respect, regardless of their role. Whether you're an architect, engineer, mason, laborer,
or security worker, each person plays a crucial part in the success of the company. We all have
specific roles, and if one person fails, it can impact the entire project's outcome. Being the husband of
our interviewee, he manages to set time only for working hours and always has time for his family.
He is one of the role models we should strive to become a socially responsible individual and manage
his time and money for his family. In conclusion, fostering a socially responsible mindset through
small, everyday actions and treating everyone with respect, coupled with effective time management
and dedication to family, can contribute positively to both personal growth and the well-being of the
community and environment.

professionals to take responsibility for their decisions and consequences. They explained that being
socially responsible means actively seeking to minimize harm and maximize benefits to all
stakeholders, including employees, customers, communities, and the environment. Furthermore, the
interviewee emphasized the principle of transparency, stating that professionals should be open and
honest in their communications and practices. Transparency fosters trust and credibility, essential to
maintaining a socially responsible reputation. Lastly, the interviewee discussed the principle of
sustainability, noting the importance of considering the long-term effects of business practices on the
environment and future generations. They emphasized the need for businesses to adopt sustainable
practices that balance economic growth with environmental stewardship. Overall, the interviewee
