Question.1:

A copper rod of length 18 in. is to be twisted by torques T until the angle of rotation between the ends of
the rod is 3°. If the allowable shear strain in the copper is 0.0006rad, what is the maximum permissible
diameter of the rod.

Ans.

dmax = 0.413 in

Question.2:

A plastic bar of diameter d= 50mm is to be twisted by torques T until the angle of rotation between the
ends of the bar is 5°. If the allowable shear strain in the plastic is 0.012 rad, what is the minimum
permissible length of the bar.

Ans.

Lmin = 182mm

simple beam AB. Data are as follows: P=5.4kN, L=3m, d=1.2m, b=75mm, t=25mm, h=100mm, and
h1=75mm.

Ans.

𝝈𝒄 = 73.2 Mpa

𝝈𝒕 = 43.9 Mpa

Question.4:

A T-beam is subjected to the bending moment of 15kN.m as shown in Fig. Determine the maximum
normal stress in the beam and the orientation of the neutral axis.

Ans.

𝝈𝑩 = 74.2 Mpa
B
𝝈𝑪 = -90 Mpa
