HR Functions
Staffing is the HR function of employee
recruitment, screening and selection
performed within an organization or business
to fill job openings. Other areas of
employment which may be handled by
a staffing department are orientation,
training, retention and termination.

HR Department plays an important role in

designing and implementing performance
appraisals. In fact, the HR team acts as
mediator between the functional heads or
reviewing authorities and the employee. It is
the human resource team's responsibility to
ensure a smooth implementation of
the appraisal process.
HR keep record of competitive pay rates current.
Ensure that payroll complies with state laws and
federal regulations. Oversee pay distribution to
employees. Work with managers to develop
employee promotion and retention strategies.
Compensation and Benefits are also known as
Remuneration Specialists are generally
responsible for overseeing employee
compensation and benefits, compensation
databases, job descriptions, benchmark
compensation as well as annual performance
reviews.

HR organize and facilitate the learning and

development of employee. They expedite the
acquisition of the knowledge, skills, and abilities
required for effective job performance.
When it comes to employee relations,
an HR department has two
primary functions. First, HR helps prevent
and resolve problems or disputes
between employees and management.
Second, they assist in creating and enforcing
policies that are fair and consistent for
everyone in the workplace.

Understand the health and safety

responsibilities of employers, managers,
supervisors and employees within the
organization. Implement personnel
management policies to ensure that everyone
in the workplace is aware of his/her
responsibilities. Establish effective ways of
meeting health and safety responsibilities.
Research in manpower and HR covers all
those specific areas which are the subject
matter of personnel admin. The HR
researcher seeks to discover the basic
relationships which may lead to improved
personnel decision-making in such areas as
turnover, absenteeism, compensation levels
and structure, job satisfaction, employee
morale, assessment of managerial potential,
training effectiveness, grievance handling,
labour relations and collective bargaining.

The HR function, more than other functions of

the business, is involved in and affects the
operation and execution of all the other
business functions. This is identified most
readily in HR's enterprise-wide staffing
responsibility but extends to the entire life-
cycle of employment – from Talent Acquisition
to Employee retention, etc.
