Identify some animals that undergo complete metamorphosis in their life
I. OBJECTIVES cycle
Demonstrate understanding that different organisms go through life cycle
A. Content Standard
which can be affected by their environment
B. Performance The learners should be able to construct a prototype model of organism
Standard that has body parts which can survive in a given environment
C. Learning Identify some animals that undergo complete metamorphosis in their life
Competency cycle.
Write the LC code S4LT-IIg-h-13
for each

Visualizes, represents and count numbers from 0 to 100 using a
variety of materials and methods M1NS-la-1.1
IV. PROCEDURES
A. Engagement On your illustration board write T if the statement is true and F if not.
1. Review _____1. Plant life begins in a seed.
_____2. MONOCOT seeds have one cotyledon.
_____3. Color and shape affect seed germination.
_____4. Mongo, atis and avocado are dicots.
_____5. Seeds with thin coats germinate faster.
2. Motivation Show pictures of butterflies.
 Can you describe the appearance of these creatures?
 Do you know where these creatures came from?
Today you will study how a butterfly develops from an egg to a
beautiful flying creature. Before we proceed, we are going to sing a song
entitled “The Butterfly Life” in the tune of Eensy Weensy Spider. (Music
Integration)
B. Exploration A. Routine Activity (Cooperative Learning)
Is it complete metamorphosis?
 Arrange the class according to their designated group.
 Check if they had brought all the materials.
 Exercise precaution in performing our activity.
 Discuss with your group mates the four stages in the life
cycle of selected animals.
 Let the pupils do the activity 1: “Is it complete
metamorphosis?”
 Answer the guide questions
B. Setting of Standards in doing the activity
C. Group Reporting
C. Explanation A. Discussion and Analysis
 What life cycle of an animal is included in our activity?
 What is the first stage of the life cycle of animals with
complete metamorphosis?
Present the illustrations of the life cycles of the butterfly, mosquito
and the fly. Explain each stages of the Life Cycle of a Complete
Metamorphosis.
For additional knowledge about the complete metamorphosis of the
selected animals, I will present to you a video presentation. (ICT
Integration)
Video presentation of the life cycle of selected animals (butterfly,
mosquito, fly and frog)
 What is the first stage of the life cycle?
 How about the second stage?
 What is the third stage of the complete life cycle? The
fourth stage?
 How many is the complete stages of the life cycle? (Math
Integration)
 When do we say that a certain life cycle is a complete
metamorphosis?
 Enumerate the stages of a complete metamorphosis.
B. Generalization
Give the four stages of a complete metamorphosis. Describe each.
 Egg – is the first stage in the life cycle of insects undergoing
complete metamorphosis. A female insect lays egg.
 Larvae – is the second stage of the life cycle. Larvae hatch from egg
but do not look adult insects. For instance, the larvae of butterflies
are caterpillars.
 Pupa – is the third stage of complete metamorphosis. In this stage
larvae make cocoon around themselves, and become busy
changing into their adult forms. They do not eat during this time.
This can take few days, or in some cases months.
 Adult – is the last stage of complete metamorphosis. After a period
of time, larvae are nothing like it was, and exits the cocoon or larval
body as an adult.
D. Identify the four stages of the life cycle of the selected animals.
Elaboration/Extension (Differentiated Instruction)
Group 1 – Color the life cycle of a fly. (Art Integration)
Group 2 – Cut and paste the life cycle of a mosquito.
Group 3 – Complete the puzzle of the life cycle of a butterfly.
