SEMI – DETAILED LESSON PLAN

Subject Area: English Grade Level: 8

Quarter: 4th Date: May 6, 2024

Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of appropriate and polite oral
language, contemporary Philippine literature as a means of responding to the demands of the
global village.

Performance Standard: The learners transfers learning by; explaining the need to be cooperative
and responsible in today’s global village, using appropriate strategies to comprehend extend text
types.

Learning Competencies: make connections between texts to particular social issues, concerns,
or dispositions in real life.

I.OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:

a. enhance substance among the youth which expands their experiences and ideals in life;
b. generate the significance of a mother’s love and wisdom as a worthwhile human; and
c. relate content or theme to previous experiences and background knowledge.
II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: The Story of Aged Mother by Matsuo Basho

Materials: PowerPoint presentation, laptop, learning materials

Reference: English 8 Textbooks and Modules

A. Preliminaries

B. Review

The teacher will ask questions about the last topic that was discussed last meeting.

1. What is problem?
2. What is solution?
3. What are the signals words for problem? Give at least 5
4. What are the signal words for solution? Give at least 5

C. Motivation

The teacher will present a song entitled ‘’Awit Kay Inay’’ by Carol Banawa then let
the students sing the song, and after singing the student will describe their/a mother by
providing words which starts with M O T H E R.

D. Presentation

The teacher will present a video that shows a mother’s love to his son then student
will answer the following questions:

 What does the video is all about?


 What does your mother symbolize?
 How significant your mother to you honing/sharpening your individuality?
E. Discussion:

The teacher will present some words and the student will match the pictures from the
words in the column A. After, the teacher will present a video about the story ‘’The Aged
Mother”.

F. APPLICATION

The teacher will group the students, then the students are tasked to demonstrate how they
love and appreciate the love and wisdom they acquire from their mothers through role play. Script
and scripts are provided.

Direction: Go to your assigned group and have a little discussion and assigned someone
from the group for their roles in the role play. Read and follow the criteria given.

G. Generalization

Play “Wheel of Questions”

The teacher will play a music, and let the students pass the fan and when the music stops
then the one who hold the fan will be the one to spin the wheel. Let the student spin the wheel and
if what colour the arrow is pointed that would be his/her question to answer.

 Who is the author of the story?


 What was the governor’s first proclamation?
 Why did he proclaim it?
 What was the mother doing while she was at the back
 of her son?
 Where did the son hide his mother since he did not want to
leave his mother?

H. Valuing

 What will you do to the evil governor if you were to judge?


 What insight have you gained from the story?
 How do you show you love to your mother?
 What do you think will happen if we kill all the aged people in our community?

IV. EVALUATION

The students will answer the following questions.

parents?

a. We are always preparing for a grand celebration when our parents will turn 50 years old.

b. We are allocating allowance to our parents as a way of showing our gratitude to them.

c. We are taking good care of our parents when they get old.

4. What do you think will happen if we kill all the aged people in our community?

V. ASSIGNMENT/AGREEMENT

Think of your own mother and ponder on the words of wisdom you gained from her. Write
your acquired wisdom and reflect how it changed you to be a better person. Be able to come up
with a creative poem.
