EXPERIMENT – 1

𝑀
AIM: Prepare standard solution of ferrous ammonium sulphate (Mohr’s salt). Using this solution find out the molarity
40
and strength of the given KMnO4 solution.
CHEMICAL EQUATIONS:

Amount of Mohr’s salt for Standard solution

𝑀
It is required to prepare 100 mL of 40
Mohr’s salt.
Weight of salt 1000
Molarity (M) = Molecular weight × Volume of solution

𝑀 Molecular weight ×M ×V
∴ Required weight for 100 mL of 40
Mohr’s salt = 1000
392 ×1 ×100
= 1000 ×40
= 0.98 g

The strength of KMnO4 is determined by law of equivalence which is given as,

From the overall balanced equation, it is clear that 2 moles of KMnO4 react with 10 moles of Mohr’s salt.
𝑀𝐾𝑀𝑛𝑂4 × 𝑉𝐾𝑀𝑛𝑂4 2
𝑀𝑀𝑜ℎ𝑟′𝑠𝑎𝑙𝑡 × 𝑉𝑀𝑜ℎ𝑟′𝑠𝑎𝑙𝑡
= 10

Apparatus Required : Burette, comical flask, pipette, burette stand, test tube, white tile, watch glass,
volumetric flask (100 ml), beaker, funnel glass rod, weight box, wash bottle.
Chemical Required :
Mohr’s Salt, KMnO4 solution, dil H2SO4, and water.
OBSERVATIONS:

𝑀
AIM: Prepare standard solution of Oxalic acid . Using this solution find out the molarity and strength of the given
