NARRATIVE REPORT

Ilocus Tour with Seminar

I. Introduction
Included in the Teaching-Learning Strategies are Field trip/Educational Tours. Educational
Tours will expose the students to different attractions and destinations not just to appreciate the beauty
of the attractions, the culture, and traditions shared by the local community in the destination, but also
to apply their learnings at classroom discussion effectively and learn deeply by themselves as Roger
Ascham said “Experience is the best teacher.”. This is crucial and considered necessary in the entire
learning process especially because most students are from Generation Z which are proven to often
prefer active learning experiences and have self-directed learning style.

Students taking up BS in Tourism and Hospitality Management are not required but are highly
encouraged to join the said Educational Tour with Seminar as it is a part of the school’s curriculum.
The said tour with seminar were conducted yearly to explore the Philippine tourism destinations
wherein students will gain beneficial experiences that will blossom their true understanding related to
the course they are taking.
Aside from the learnings and enjoyment the students will have as they join the educational tour,
they will also receive incentives on their major subjects that they don’t need to take the written
examinations. However, they are still required to submit a narrative report and their per section
vlog/video that will serve as their final examination.

II. Narrative

April 7, 2024, the first day of our Educational tour with seminar, we had an assembly time pf
8:00pm and we had our departure at exactly 9:11pm. We had stop overs at SHELL Tabang NLEX and
Liza’s Sison Pangasinan. Aside from the fact that I am filled with excitement, I feel not so comfortable
to sleep so I couldn’t sleep well while we’re on our way to Ilocos. The night was short that I didn’t
noticed it passing then I woke up at exactly 5:26am realizing that we’re finally at Vigan, Ilocos ! We
had our pax account Mcdo chicken and rice breakfast at 6:42am that will give us enough energy

through the day. After eating our breakfast, we then proceeded to our first destination, Pagburnayan,
where we witnessed the making of hand-crafted unglazed clay jars made in Vigan. What’s funny to
say is that we already spent our money on buying pasalubongs just in our first destination.
While we are on our way to the attractions, we are having fun activities at the bus. Our second
destination of the day is Baluarte ni Chavit. I personally love animals and they have a soft spot in my
heart and so I know that I will enjoy our second attraction. Seeing the animals in front of me brings
smile and positivity to me but deep down, I feel so bad for them because of the life they have. I kept on
complaining about how hot the weather is and realizing that the animals must also feel the same way but
they are only enduring it everyday just to bring smile to people. I hope they are enjoying their lives as
much as we, tourists, are enjoying the tour. I was very happy to see and have a picture with King, the
white lion and I was really amazed by the animals at the zoo showing their talents. We had a tour of the
Safari Gallery and Crocodile Park . At 11:49am, we proceeded to our third attraction which is the
famous Calle Crisologo. We had enough time taking pictures and appreciating the beauty of the Calle
Crisologo. We then took a ride of Kalesa with ou white horse back to our bus. At 1:00pm, we had our
lunch at hidden café then travelled to our hotel to check-in at Fort Ilocandia at 4:32pm. We then had our
seminar at 5:40pm and a raffle by our tavel agency at 6:30pm. The speaker at the seminar, Dr. Hazel
Domingo, talked about the types of heritage, diversification of portfolio through multidimensional
tourism, definition of eco-tourism, eco-tourism at Ilocos Norte, attractions of Ilocos Norte and the
delicacies that the Ilocanos are proud of and one thing I could never forget is “Ilocos Norte I’M IN!”
and “Find the 1 on Region I.”. At 7:29pm, we then had our dinner at Arabella Events Place where I ate
a lot and enjoyed my meal to fulfill the needs of my exhausted body. We got back on our hotel at 8:50
and given our free time until 11:00pm to enjoy the pool area. At 11:00pm, it was time to rest so that
we’ll have energy for the tour tomorrow.

At April 9, we woke up early and got ready at 5:00am then we had our breakfast at 7:00am that
I consider the best meal of the whole Ilocos Tour. We proceed on our first attraction of the day, Bangui
Windmills, at 9:40am. I was mesmerized by the beauty of seashore and shocked by the sizes of the
windmills. We enjoyed buying lots of souvenirs and taking pictures. At 11:20am, we arrived at our
second attraction, the Kapurpurawan Rock Formation where we still pushed ourselves to take pictures

and videos even we feel like passing out because of the extreme heat temperature. We then had our
lunch at Arabella Events Place at 1:30pm then we proceed to our third destination which is the
Malacanang Of the North that was filled with history of the Marcos Family on every corner of rooms
and picture frames. At 3:50pm, we are on our fourth attraction which is the Paoay Church where I
tasted their dragon fruit ice cream and pinakbet ice cream. Last destination of the day which everyone
was excited about, Culili Sand Dunes! Me and my friends had much and much of fun at riding the
thrilling 4x4 ride. It was such a memorable experience for us to try the sand boarding because we are so
scared at first then want to try it repeatedly after. After Culili Sand Dunes, we had our dinner at
Arabella Events Place again then our travel time to Playa Tropical Resort Hotel until 9:00pm . We are
given time until 11:00pm to enjoy our place and own pool at our villa which is the highlight of the
night and I enjoyed a whole lot with my friends. We then had our rest after swimming because of being
so exhausted.

April 10, 2024 was the last day of our tour. I greeted Ilocos a good morning and started the day
with breakfast at 6:30am. I got ready and made sure to take great pictures of our beautiful resort. At
10:30am, we are at our first attraction, Sta. Monica Church. After that, at 11:20am, we proceeded to
Robinsons Place Ilocos to have our pax account lunch until 12:20 supposedly but ended to be 1:00pm
because the line of stores are long. We travelled to Sto. Domingo at 2:40pm to buy pasalubongs for the
last time and I bought a lot but the main highlight was their bibingka because I loved it. After that, we
started travelling back to Batangas and I feel mix of emotions as I watch the sunset and the road that we
are passing on our way back. We had our stop over at 8:40pm to have our dinner at Liza’s Sison
Pangasinan and I had a tasty Lugaw. We had a fast travel time back to Batangas and I was surprised to
wake up at Malvar, Batangas on our arrival at 1:30 am. We had our goodbyes to our tourguide, Kuya
Alvin.

III.Conclusion III.

Our Ilocos tour was definitely a successful one. There’s so much to remember and this narrative
would be extra long if i would write every memory i had from Ilocos. I’m honest to say that I’ve gained
beneficial experiences and it blossomed my true understanding of the lessons that are discussed in our
classroom discussions. My physical self may be really exhausted but my mind is happy to be full of
moments that I have cherished on this tour. I hope to see Ilocos again next time!

TM205-Applied Business Tools in Tourism and Hospitality Industry

During our Educational tour, we had amazing activities at the bus. Our tour guide, Kuya Alvin asks
a lot of questions and he allows us to make use of our data on our devices like mobile phones which I
think is connected to our subject, TM 205. Also, the use of keycards to access hotel rooms and the use of
their telephones and mobile phones to contact us because they called my friend’s phone as they thought
she didn’t returned the key card of our room.

THM 203&204-Introduction to MICE

The Ilocos Educational tour comes with the seminar and the seminar is considered a part of the MICE
because it is a meeting. The meeting or the seminar was a success because I know for sure that the
people behind that seminar had a good MICE Planning. The topic that was discussed by the speaker was
of course connected to the said tour so that the attendees would benefit from the topic.

TME 102-Ecotourism
Ecotourism of Ilocos was discussed and highlighted by our speaker, Dr. Hazel Domingo. I am a
witness that the tourist attractions and heritage of Ilocos considers ecotourism. They have strict rules and
regulations especially in the Malacañang of the North and heritage like Paoay Church that is also known
as St. Augustine Church and Sta. Monica Church.

TM 204-Tourism Planning
As we have visited different tourist attractions, I had witnessed with my naked eye the different
establishments near the tourist destinations. I somehow realized that they surpassed Tourism Planning
and is now considered successful on their business.

IHM 206-Legal Aspect in Tourism and Hospitality

I learned that as a tourist, I should be responsible to know enough about the environmental laws
especially on the destinations/attractions that has strict rules and regulations. As we had our check-in on
two different hotels, I reminded myself everytime about my legal responsibilities as a customer of the
accommodation. The hotels really felt like a home to me but deep down I know that I should still be
responsible and disciplined while staying. As I joined the tour, I am aware that we had an agreement
with the travel agency and they are accountable if any accident happen depending on the situation but of
course I should still be extra cautious of my actions as accidents sometimes cannot be avoided.
