Create a Graphics Bookmark about A Silk Cotton Tree in Caribbean Folklore using Canva
and various Graphic Techniques.

Using my reference image I sketched out a small version of a silk cotton tree using a 2B pencil.

After sketching out the tree, I transferred it to a digital app called Canva where I sketched out
the colors for the tree. I used a method called Alle Prima.

I changed the colors of the tree trunk into monotone colors to depict the oldness of a silk cottone
tree. I also added tree leaves using a “Cotton Brush” on Canva using different yellow hues.

I then added two text layers using the font “FIBRE FONT” for the Title “ NINE NIGHTS” and the
font “MAX SOMSIN FONT” for the subtitle “A FOLKLORE NOVELLA”

App Used: Canva I then added images of rice and salt because they keep her from transforming
into a full ball of fire. I also added a layer of “SOUCOUYANT” in a fire font called HELLBONE.

For this birthday card, I used Canva entirely, after inserting a Getty image of young girl and naming her

Meredith, I then added a mermaid and a text layer “Under the Sea” using the font “WATERLILY” to

create a mermaid, kid friendly art.

After I changed the background to a blush pink, and added more mermaids and other graphics to
enhance the card.

I then added a starfish graphic and pastel colored balloons to the invitation and used the
font “SELIMA” to write “ MEREDITH IS TURNING 4” And another text layer with the
location and details using the font “B612”.

For my first sketch, I used mixed media paper and I printed out different news articles/stories of
the Soucouyant and stuck them in varying positions using Paper Glue.

After I used my reference image and drew and color in an old lady with fire on her back to
depict the lore of a Soucouyant being and old lady that turns into a ball of fire at night.
FINAL PIECE

Using Canva I rearranged the salt and rice to be ath the bottom of her feet and I also added
another text layer “ A BLOOD SUCKING HAG” at the bottom of the first text layer.

Firstly, I sketched out my idea onto a sketch pad paper.

After I used my reference image and sketched out a solar eclicsple and then used a painting
technique called dabbing I used a red-brown color palette.

I then used a variation of blues and a little purple and white and blended my brush strokes
to create a fire.

I then traced my first sketch onto the canvas and painted the duppy’s face using a
grey palette and I also added a log setup for the fire and I used varying browns.

Finally I used Foam and cut them into eye balls to appear like the eyes are bulging and I
gathered black and white yarn and made his hair, mustache and beard.

blended where necessary, I decided to keep the lady faceless.
