GRADE-9 STUDENTS
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
Reading skills are necessary to our everyday lives. By reading and listening to
other people, we are able to understand them. Hence, reading skills are important so we
can get information or messages from other people. By reading, we can only not
determine words or letters but it is also a way for comprehension that was constructed
from a word or letter in order to phrase a sentence (Mewoh et. al, 2022).
People around the world now regard mobile phones as both a commodity and a
necessity, particularly among the younger generation. The use of mobile devices by
devices as additional learning resources (Adlit et. al, 2023). The use of smartphones
became a huge part in society, which includes our educational and professional lives of
the people. Researchers found out that individuals aged 18-29 are most likely to use
smartphones and Universities tend to have large population of these users. In addition,
statistics showed that about 97% of the students have smartphones while 95% of them
Cellphone use reduces attention span, which impacts reading and makes students
more prone in having difficulty to read to comprehend to interpret and decode written
languages and texts. As a result, students reading skills could decrease. Inability to focus
is a well-known issue for both students and teachers. This research will help to determine
the effect of cellphone use on grade 9 students reading skills, the findings of this study

This study would be very beneficial for students in MCLLNHS because, by doing this
research, students can understand how cellphone can affect their reading skills and take
FUTURE RESEARCHERS:
This study can be very beneficial for future researchers as it can help future researchers
identify the problem of cellphone use in the classroom and its impact on students reading
skills. It can help them build on existing knowledge and also help them in their Review of
This study will focus on the Effects of cellphone use on the reading skills of grade
9 students. The target respondents of this study are the grade 9 students of Maria Clara
Lorenzo Lobregat National High School that are enrolled in this current school year.
Target respondents will answer a survey questionnaire using the purposive sampling
