Task 1 – Part 1

What do you want to achieve over the final 8 weeks on the

Foundation Programme?

Please respond to the questions below as a starting point. This

document is a Prop/Prompt for you and your developed answers
should be loaded as a scribd document in an appropriate position
on your Weebly site. You will update this proposal as you move
through the project, do not delete initial statements, add a date
each time you add a new statement to a particular section.

The final document should be loaded to your Weebly by the 6th of

May.

Question 1
Reflect on your work you've created so far and consider on how your use of materials,
tools, techniques and processes reflect the broader ideas and message that you are interested to
convey.

What materials, tools, techniques and processes have you used and how can you employ a broader
range of materials and techniques to explore your theme in Module 3?

For the final piece in my last project, I used oil paint which ended up being a
mistake as I didn’t have much time and I was banned from using it in the studio.
This is a medium I can’t wait to explore further next year. I love my life drawing so
for this project I want to bring that into my conceptual work. The idea I had to bring
the two together was to live draw performances. I would do this by going to a
circus, dance, gig and draw. I also plan to email a circus and ask whether I can sit in
one of their practice sessions and draw. This obviously presents some new
challenges to my life drawing as I will be drawing people moving which means I
will have to draw very quickly. I plan to practice by watching videos of
performances and drawing but also going to as many life drawings sessions as
possible, so I get quicker and quicker at capturing a body/shapes made by body. I
am also thinking of exploring using Photoshop to colour images in the same way an
artist called Florence given does.

Question 2
Reflect upon the audience and method of dissemination for your work.
What does it communicate and who is it communicating to? What does it offer to the
viewer/customer/client and their lifestyle? Where will the work be situated? How can you market
your work?

I want my peace to communicate the power of clothes has on yourself and others. It
is for anyone; the idea is to show that everything we do is a performance so you
may as well have fun with it. Be more theatrical with your clothing. I hope that it
will offer the viewer a new perspective and show to someone who does not value or
put effort into how they dress the joy it can give them. Find the fun in the mundane.
I would market my work on social media in an exhibit. Maybe make posters for a
bedroom wall.

Question 3
We make, design, and produce work to be shared, and to elicit a reaction or provoke a response.

What response would you like to provoke in your Audience/Client/Viewer/User? Are you the kind of
designer/artist/producer who aims to disrupt - to entertain or to question? Is your work ironic,
playful, educational or political? Use this space to think about the response of your target audience
on viewing your work - how do you want them to react? What is an ideal response?

I hope to empower my audience and encourage them to use fashion and clothes as a
vehicle/medium to explore themselves. Understanding that the way they present
themselves has power over themselves and others. Promoting more playful dressing.
I would like to entertain but also hopefully make a viewer question explore fashion
as expression further. I want the viewer to experience some of the same joy, fashion
and dressing up gives me.

Task 1 – Part 1

What is your Project Concept?

In previous projects, we have focused on outcomes or objects, for this module we

are expecting you to design an investigation and for this to lead to an appropriate
outcome/object which embraces your specialism and matches your burgeoning
ambition.
Please outline the project themes - and the ideas that you wish to explore. Focus on the meaning
behind the work rather than processes, materials or skills. (There is a space for this information
further on in the document) This is a short module - so it is critical that you make a swift decision
and commit to an investigation early. We know that this is hard - but push yourself and work to
get to the making, design and production stage with confidence.

Fashion for me can sometimes be like putting on another persona making me brave
enough to do things I can’t do as me the same way an actor becomes someone else
on stage. If you start dressing like the person you want to be at some point you
might find out you’re her! Everything is a performance; gender social niceties, how
we walk, talk ect. Understanding that gives you power to control play with that.
Dressing to make you happy consider the colours you love and surrounding yourself
in them, dopamine dressing. Dressing up as a character you love not fancy dress
more reconsidering your closet thinking of unusual ways to wear what you have, to
bring an essence of this character into your life.
Dressing to make you feel powerful, confident, sexy, comfortable ect. My mum always
said when you feel awful wear your favourite clothes or clothes you know you look good
in.

Please give an overview of the project here.

What will your work look like? What technologies/tools/equipment/processes will you use?

Take photos one of someone wearing something which makes them feel cool,
confident, sexy, comfortable something which pushes their boundaries something
which just isn’t them, maybe wearing someone else’s clothes. Try and communicate
how clothes can change how you feel about yourself how you look to others. Then
maybe make caricature, simplify these images and produce an illustrations like
Florence Given, a slogan for example “who should I be today” and then have all the
different outfits. Interview Amelia on discovering the effect clothing can have.
She’ll be interesting to talk to you as it is only recently, she has started to appreciate
clothing as something more than function. everything she wore were hand-me-
downs but now coming to uni she has been able to find her identity personal style,
away from expectations of parents having to conform in school et cetera. Realising
it is a way to feel good about yourself improve your mood and also communicate
who you are to others. Then do life drawings of her in her favourite clothes which
make her feel confident, find a way to communicate this through life drawing. Or
drawings with her moving (play music she loves to encourage this). Series of live
drawings charcoal explore ink as a medium. Focus on drawing performance.

What skills will you need to develop in order to complete the work?
What will you need to learn? What existing strengths do you have that can help you to succeed?

draw people in action - Watch videos of performances, go to Cafes et cetera.

Go to lots of life during sessions
get a big piece of paper put music on draw with whole body explore drawing as
performance inspired by Saranjit Birdi ‘Drawind Dance” resident artist at Reading
art collection.
What will you do to sustain your practice and to develop your motivation,
understanding and confidence?
This focus of this question is your research practice - what has already inspired, informed and
influenced you? How can you push yourself beyond your comfort zone here?

Engage actively with circus- go to the circus watch a production

Do lots of life drawing
Push my own personal boundaries with how I dress

Task 1 – Part 2

This is a short module - and scheduling your activity and planning out your production arc will
help to ensure that you keep the project on track, with time to make a quality artefact for the
exhibition. The best project concept in the world will not lead to a successful outcome without
good, pragmatic planning. Remember, gathering or "procuring" materials will take time - and
supplier availability and high costs will slow you down and impact on your ability to make work.
You must factor this into your schedule. A prohibitively high cost on a particular material or item
may prompt you to investigate a more easily sourced and cheaper alternative, which can
improve your carbon footprint - and improve the "sustainability" of the project.

Resources, Services and Tools - What will I need and what steps
must be taken to ensure access and availability?
What do you think you will need to complete the project? How can you begin to negotiate access
and co-ordinate your making with availability?

Resource - Service or Tool How do I access/acquire What additional understanding,

(Add to the list as you this? expenditure or skill do I need to
progress) exploit this resource well?

Sustainability
Use this page to identify aspects of your project relating to sustainability, unnecessary waste,
and environmental concerns. What might you do to manage this and reduce your impact? If you
can’t manage it directly, could you take action to offset your carbon footprint? How will you plan
for the end of life of your object/s, how will you remove it from the studio at the end of the
exhibition and how will you recycle and dispose of it? What is the recycling / disposal protocol for
the materials you are using? How is this affected once you combine materials together?

Do Multiple of the warm up drawings on one piece of paper.

When making prints with etching be very particular with each print you make.
Take care so less wastage.

Task 1 – Part 2

Project Budget
Please list below any cost or expenditure associated with your project. The aim here is to identify
the actual cost of the work you have made, rather than the projected cost of a proposed
outcome. You do not need to list those materials that are freely available in the studios
(paper/pencils/acrylic paint etc) but do include more specific materials such as fabric, wood,
superglue, neoprene etc. You can add to this list as you progress through the project.

What are the Health and Safety risks associated with my

chosen pipeline, workflow or exhibition method?
You must pick at least three and go on to explain the steps that you will take to ensure your
own safety and that of the people around you while working on the project. Evidence that
you have researched how this is managed in the creative industries AND applied it to your
own situation will enhance your submission.

Please note that while some substances may not be toxic or harmful, they may still have an
adverse impact on your peers. You will need to discuss any materials not already in regular
use in the studio with your tutor.
