Activity Title: Water Meter Reader!
Learning Target: Reads and interprets electric and water meter readings.
Reference: 21st Century Mathletes Textbook Grade 6, MELC (M6ME-IVd-100)
LAS Writer: Jerald Libron
The water meter measures the amount of water. The unit we use for this
measurement is cubic meters (m3).
The older styles of water meters are those with small dials. It looks like a series
of small clocks that turn clockwise.
Reading Water Meters
To read water meters:
1. Start reading from right to left (clockwise). Read the number by the pointer of the
dial. When the pointer is between two numbers, the lower number is recorded.
2. When the pointer is directly on the number, look at the dial to the right. If it has
passed zero, use the next higher number. If the dial has not passed zero, use the
lower number.
3. Record the numbers from right to left.
Example: Read and interpret the dials on the meter below. The rightmost dial has
the highest value.
To get the exact meter reading, start from right to left of the highest numbered
dial (clockwise). 3 518 m3

So, the water meter shows 3 518 m3.

Direction: Read and interpret the dials on the meter below. Write your answer in the
space provided.
