Lesson: Quarter 4 Week 4 LAS 1
Activity Title: Perfecting Pie Graph!
Learning Target: Constructs a pie graph based on a given set of data
Reference: 21st Century Mathletes Textbook Grade 6, MELC (M6SP-IVe-2.6)
LAS Writer: Jerald Libron
Pie graphs are used to show the percentage of a quantity in each of the several categories. It
can also be used to easily visualize the ratio of one category to another.
Drawing Pie Graphs
To draw a pie graph:
1. Find the angle measure for each section.
2. Draw a circle using a compass.
3. Use a protractor to draw each angle measure. Then label each section.
4. Write a title for the graph.
Example: Mr. Sinco surveyed 40 teenagers about their favorite sports. The results of the survey are
as follows. Draw a pie graph to display the data.
Basketball- 24 Badminton- 8
Football-6 Table tennis- 2
For us to easily graph the data, let us write the result in percent.
Sports Votes Percent Angle
Basketball 24 (24 ÷ 40) x 100 = 60% 60% or 0.60 x 360°= 216°
Badminton 8 (8 ÷ 40) x 100 = 20% 0.20 x 360° = 72°
Football 6 (6÷ 40) x 100 = 15% 0.15 x 360° = 54°
Table Tennis 2 (2 ÷ 40) x 100 = 5% 0.05 x 360° = 18°
TOTAL 40 100% 360°
