CHAPTER I

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Lemongrass oil is a natural insect repellent that can be used to make homemade organic
insecticides. It is extracted from the fresh and dried leaves of the lemongrass plant by the steam
distillation process. Lemongrass oil contains citronellol and geraniol, which are effective against
a wide range of biting insects. We therefore conclude that we can produce an alternative
homemade organic insecticide with the use of lemongrass and lemongrass oil as our primary
materials, we can make a substitute handmade organic insecticide. Although it is not the same
as commercial items available in stores in terms of quality, odor, and effect, it can guarantee
your safety. There is only a slight discrepancy in seconds between Baygon's time spent. All of
this investigation's goals were accomplished.
CHAPTER II

INTRODUCTION

Nowadays, insecticides are not only pricey but also include dangerous compounds that have
been connected to the activity of malignant cells. Children who had significant exposure to
hazardous insecticides showed declines in their cell-mediated immunity. Farmers and
homeowners created many solutions to get rid of bug infestations on their garden plants thanks
to technological advancements. This research aims to find a low-cost substitute for organic and
natural insecticide using materials that may be found in your home. Toxic sprays may be
effective in getting rid of garden pests, but they are bad for the environment and you.
Additionally, the goal of this investigation was to get more inventive and to develop an efficient
insecticide that wouldn't damage garden plants or endanger people's health.

Rationale

Lemongrass oil is an essential oil that is extracted from lemongrass, a tropical grass with a
lemony scent. It has been found to be effective as an insect repellent and insecticide. This
makes it a great ingredient for making a homemade organic insecticides. Using lemongrass oil
as an ingredient in an organic insecticide is based on its properties. Lemongrass oil contains
citral and limonene, which are natural insecticides that can kill and repel insects. Citral has been
found to be effective against mosquitoes, flies, and ants. Limonene, on the other hand, can
repel and kill fleas, ticks, and other pests

It does not contain harmful chemicals that can harm the environment. This makes it an
excellent alternative to commercial insecticides, which often contain harmful chemicals that
can be toxic to humans and animals. Lemongrass oil in a homemade organic insecticide is that it
is effective as an insecticide and insect repellent, non-toxic, and safe for humans and pets. Its
natural properties make it a great ingredient for creating a natural and effective solution to get
rid of pests.

Significance of the Study

This study was conducted for the beneficial effects of every community. It is made of natural
components and only the most basic chemicals, this organic DIY pesticide is safe for the
environment and non-toxic to humans and pets. The audience's understanding and awareness
of the effects of insects on the ecosystem, particularly the way mosquitoes are changing due to
the rise in dengue, malaria, and the most recent Zika virus cases, can be improved by this study.
Green thumbs and nature enthusiasts will benefit from this, as well as safety, awareness, and
environmental assistance. Gaining a knowledge of this study would be very beneficial for
maintaining adequate cultural sensitivity and good sanitary standards.

This will be used as a future references for researchers and practitioners looking to improve
repellents and other products. The goods and helpful information will help the World Health
Organization (WHO) conduct additional study. The World Health Organization is a global
medical organization that deals with disease prevention and health-related research. A
government organization in the Philippines that deals with health data and conditions for
Filipinos is the Department of Health (DOH). It provides free government services and meets
Filipinos' requirements for medical supplies. Additionally, DOH stands to gain from boosting the
efficiency of meeting people's requirements in order to attain and enhance each person's
health condition, health care services, and as much.

Scientific Basis

Organic insecticides are becoming increasingly popular as people become more aware of the
harmful effects of synthetic chemicals. One such organic insecticide is made from lemongrass
oil. The main active component in lemongrass oil is citral, which has been found to have
insecticidal properties. The oil works by disrupting the insects' nervous system, leading to
paralysis and death. Research has shown that lemongrass oil can be an effective insecticide
against a variety of pests, including mosquitoes, flies, and ants. Its effectiveness is comparable
to synthetic insecticides, but it is much safer for humans and the environment.

To make a homemade organic insecticide with lemongrass oil, simply mix a few drops of the oil
with water and a mild detergent. This mixture can then be sprayed on plants or directly on
insects to repel or kill them. However, it is important to note that while lemongrass oil is
considered safe, it should still be used with caution. It can cause skin irritation in some people
and should not be ingested. Additionally, it is important to properly identify the pest and use
the appropriate amount of the insecticide to avoid harming beneficial insects or plants.
