Helping Verbs

A verb that comes before the main verb (or


doing/action word) is known as helping verb.
Helping verbs ‘am’, ‘is’, ‘are’ tell about the present
time

Example:
1. I am enjoying beautiful scene.
2. Birds are flying over the sea.
3. Children are playing on the beach.
4. A hatchling is coming out of its egg.
5. I am going to school.
6. The teacher is absent today.
7. Children are making noise in the classroom.

Helping verbs ‘was’, ‘were’ tell about the past

Examples:

1. The zoo was crowded.


2. We were at the party this evening.
3. They were writing in their notebooks.
4. He was drinking hot chocolate milk.
5. She was disturbing me.

Helping verb ‘will’ tell about the future.

Examples:

1. He will go to his friend’s home this afternoon.


2. There will be a test tomorrow.
3. She will surely pass the test.
4. They will visit us this weekend.
