Good morning everyone today we are going to tackle about MOLAR FRACTION, MOLARITY AND

MOLALITY, but before I discuss about MOLARITY and MOLALITY, let us first learn about MOLE
FRACTION.

Let’s begin by defining what is mole fraction. Mol fraction is [read on the powerpoint]
It is dimensionless meaning unitless. So all answers in MOLE FRACTION is unitless or pure
number.

Mole fraction is also a type of concentration similar to molarity and molality.

Wherein it is the number of moles of solvent per moles of solution and it could also be the
number of moles of solute per moles of solution.

Mole fraction can be represented in 3 different ways.

So let’s assume that A is solute while b is solvent.
The formula in getting the mole fraction of solute is [read the powerpoint]
While the formula in getting the mole fraction of solvent is [read the powerpoint]
In general the mole fraction of component I in a mixture is given by [read the powerpoint]
Wherein x sub I is the mole fraction
N sub I is the amount of constituent in moles
And n sub t is the total amount of all constituents in a mixture in moles.
Take note that the mole fraction is always smaller than 1. Hindi 1.01 1.02 mas lalo ng hindi 2

To fully understand the MOLE FRACTION let’s do solving.

Just a reminder when solving for mole fraction the units of the given should always be in mole.
S problem number 1 [read powerpoint]
The first step in solving mole fraction is to identify the given. So what is or are the given in the
problem?
These are the [read powerpoint]
The second step in solving mole fraction is identifying what is unknown.
Our unknown is the mole fraction of h2O

After finding the given and unknown, make sure the units to be used are appropriate.
Since the compound h2o is in grams we need to convert it to mole to follow our rule that all
given in mole fraction should be in mole. So how are we going to convert grams to mole?
First we need to find the molar mass of the compound h2O since ito yung compound na naka
grams.
Let’s write h2O
Separate the different elements that makes up the compound h2O which are hydrogen and
Oxygen. Next is write the atomic number of each element then multiply it by their atomic mass.
Add their products and there we will come up with the molar mass of h2O which is 18 g/mol.

After finding the molar mass of the h2O we can finally proceed to the conversion.
So the formula in converting grams to mole is
So 100

Ngayon na tam ana ang unit ng mga given ay let’s move on to the calculation of the unknown.
The formula we need to use is [read the powerpoint]

Nga pala sa tatlong formula na nabanggit kanina itong dalawang ito gagamitin lang natin kung
ang unknown ay ang magkaparehong solute at solvent. Pero kung ang unknown ay isa lang
which is either solute or solvent we will use this formula.

So let’s proceed [write the formula] our formula is X sub i

What is our n sub i guys? The 5.56 mole of H2O since ito yung unknown
Our n sub t is what? The amount of all constituents in a mixture. So lets add 5.56 mole and
