AMS on streamlining operations, enhancing passenger experience, and advancing airport
management practices in the digital era.
1.1 BACKGROUND OF SYSTEM

The background of an Airport Management System (AMS) traces back to the growing
complexities of managing airport operations efficiently and safely. Historically, airport
management relied heavily on manual processes and disparate systems, leading to inefficiencies,
delays, and safety concerns. However, with the advancement of technology and the increasing
demand for air travel, the need for a more comprehensive and integrated approach to airport
management became apparent.

As air travel continues to grow globally, airports face increasing challenges in managing
complex processes, including flight scheduling, passenger handling, security, and resource
allocation. Traditional manual methods are often inefficient and prone to errors, necessitating the
adoption of automated systems to meet the demands of modern aviation.

The systems have evolved significantly over the years in response to the increasing complexities
and demands of the aviation industry. Initially, airports relied on manual processes and paper-
based systems to manage their operations, resulting in inefficiencies, delays, and a lack of real-
time information.

The advent of computer technology revolutionized airport management, leading to the

development of early digital systems for flight scheduling, passenger handling, and resource
allocation. These systems marked the beginning of the modern Airport Management Systems,
laying the groundwork for more sophisticated solutions in the decades to come.
1.2 PROBLEM STATEMENT

Inefficient management and operation of airports result in various challenges, including

long queues at security checkpoints, flight delays, inefficient baggage handling, and overall
dissatisfaction among passengers. Addressing these issues requires the development of a
comprehensive Airport Management System (AMS) that integrates various functionalities to
optimize airport operations, enhance passenger experience, and improve overall efficiency.

Designing and implementing an Airport Management System (AMS) using PHP and SQL to
streamline airport operations, enhance passenger experience, and improve overall efficiency.

User Interface Design a user-friendly interface for airport staff, airline personnel, and passengers
to interact with the AMS. Ensure intuitive navigation, clear visualizations, and responsive design
for seamless access across devices.

1.3 PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT

Purpose: This thesis aims to evaluate the effectiveness of an Airport Management System
(AMS) in optimizing airport operations. By analyzing the design, implementation, and
functionality of the AMS, the study seeks to assess its impact on improving flight scheduling,
passenger services, through this investigation, the project aims to provide insights into the
benefits of AMS adoption for enhancing operational efficiency, passenger experience, and
overall airport management practices.
1.4 PROJECT OBJECTIVE

 Improving the travel experience for passengers is a primary goal of the AMS. By offering
features such as online check-in, self-service kiosks, real-time flight information, and
seamless baggage handling, the system aims to make travel more convenient, efficient,
and enjoyable for passengers.
 Enable airport authorities to monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and make
informed decisions to optimize operations and improve service quality.
 The AMS collects and analyzes data from various airport operations to provide insights
and inform decision-making. By generating reports, analytics, and dashboards, the system
enables airport authorities to monitor key performance indicators, identify trends, and
make informed decisions to optimize operations and improve service quality.

1.5 PROJECT SCOPE

 Develop functionality to manage flight schedules, including adding, updating, and

canceling flights..
 Implement a simple interface for displaying flight information such as departure/arrival
times and gate assignments.
 This project also give a full access to admin so he can create a basic database to store
passenger information, including name and contact details.
 Design a basic user interface for airport staff to interact with the system.

1.6 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

The project significantly enhances airport operations by automating key processes
such as flight scheduling, passenger management, and resource allocation. This leads to
smoother operations, reduced wait times, and improved overall efficiency.

The implementation of the Airport Management System (AMS) marks a significant

step towards as smart airport operations. By digitizing and automating key processes, the
project brings airports up to contemporary standards of efficiency and service delivery.
