Eligibility Criteria
Participants must meet all of the following
requirements:
 18 years of age or older;
 Resident of Maine and/or have
a conviction in Maine;
 Offender of non-
violent crimes;
 No violent criminal history;
 No outstanding warrants;
 Ability to perform some physical
activity and sleep in the camp cabins on
bunks;
 Must be sentenced.
 Order by sentencing judge.
 No medicinal marijuana of any kind
allowed at the program.
Schedule
ASP is offered one week each spring and fall
at Wavus Camp in Jefferson. The program
begins on a Friday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
Participants in the 2 day program are released
48 hours later, on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. Those in
the 7 day program are released the
following Friday at 12:00 noon.
Program Fee
Participants must pay a fee to attend the
program, in addition to any fines or
restitution imposed by the court.
The fee is $300 for the 2-day program
Alternative
and $500 for the 7-day program for
persons submitting payment no later Sentencing Program
than 30 prior to the start of the
program. An additional $100 fee will
be required for any late submissions. April 26 – May 3, 2024
All fees are non-refundable. We accept
money order/bank check (no personal checks), October 18 – 25, 2024
and credit cards. For credit card payment,

Program Mission

Education
The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office
Alternative Sentencing Program offers an
alternative to incarceration in a county jail. A
judge must sentence a defendant to the
program, often upon request by the defendant
or their attorney, or recommendation by the
district attorney. The program is open to any
Maine resident, regardless of where in the state
they were convicted, or non-residents who
would otherwise be serving jail time in Maine.
The defendant pays the program cost.
There is a 2 day and 7 day program offered each
year in April and again in October.
Participants are in custody and under
supervision. They will reside at Wavus,
staying in cabins, in a dormitory-style
arrangement. Community service work will
be done during the day, and education
programs will be attended each evening. All
meals will be provided and eaten as a group.
Head counts will be conducted several times
each day. There will be no contact with anyone
outside the program during the stay except for
designated times to make phone calls. No
access to other electronic devices, music
devices, etc. is permitted. Violations of the
program rules and expectations will result in
offenders being turned over to the county jail
and/or returned to their own county jail.
The program is designed to meet several
objectives:
 Hold individuals accountable for
their previous criminal actions;
 Provide service to the community;
 Reduce costs to the community
for housing inmates;
 Provide participants an opportunity
to learn about the impact of their
behavior on others;
 Provide participants an opportunity
to review their own lives and needs
regarding the use or abuse of alcohol
or other drugs;
 Improve participants’ self-esteem;
 Strengthen participants’ decision-
making skills.
Partial list of what to bring:
 Enough clothes for the stay,
accounting for weather changes;
 Rain gear, work boots and gloves;
 Warm bedding, pillow, towels, and
toiletries;
 Prescription or over-the-counter
medications in their original
containers;
 Cell phone, flashlight, book or
reading materials;
 Bug spray and/or sun screen;
 A complete list will be provided
in the information packet.
Application & Screening Process
Prospective participants should:
1. Complete the attached Application and
return it with a copy of your “Judgement
and Commitment” to the address listed on
this flyer.
2. Receive a packet of information about the
program, including a copy of the
Participant Rules to be signed at check-
in, a list of items to bring/not bring,
and directions to the program location.
3. Do a screening interview by phone. Some
may be required to meet in person with
staff for screening prior to attending the
program.
4. Submit payment as outlined in this
flyer.
5. Bring photo ID at check in to the program
and to the in-person screening if required
(driver’s license, state photo ID, passport,
college ID are all acceptable).
6. Anyone with serious medical concerns
may need to provide approval from
doctors or counselors certifying their
ability to safely complete the program.
