Learning Objectives
In this lesson you will:

Practice answering questions based on Part 1 of the IELTS Speaking test.


Learn and practice some different ways to talk about your family, language to
make your answers sound more interesting, and phrases you can use if you don't
understand a question.
Practice pronouncing /I/ as in "ship" and /i:/ as in "sheep."

Speaking Test Part 1 Dialogue

Read the dialogue based on Part 1 of the IELTS Speaking test with your tutor. You will be
the examiner. At the end, you will need to answer 3 questions.

Do you get along well with your family? Why? Why not?

Examiner

I get along really well with all of them, even my younger brother! We
laugh a lot. People are often surprised by how much time we spend
Yan-ting together, but we really like hanging out.

What do you like doing with your family?

Examiner

It may sound strange, but my parents and I are really into video games.
They really like Mario Kart so we play that together. Surprisingly, my
Yan-ting mum is really good. Sometimes, we also play board games. We're all
learning Mahjong.
So, do you spend a lot of time with your family?

Examiner

Yes, my family is really important to me, so I spend most of my time


with them ... except when I’m at work.
