Job Description

Position: Data Engineer, Research Tech@Lilly

Path/Level: R1

Note: Roles are posted at the lowest level of a band, however, employees should search across all
levels of the band to identify all opportunities. Employees hired on banded positions (ex: P1-P3, R1-
R2, B1-B3, etc.) transfer at their current level, despite the level indicated on the job posting. For
example, if a P2 candidate is selected for a P1-P3 banded position, the candidate will remain a P2 in
the new role.

Detailed Description:

Competency with Data Information Management:


Information Management is the overall management of all types of information, structured and
unstructured, whether produced internally or externally, which are used to support decision-making,
business processes and digital services.
Individuals in Information Management are perceived as subject matter experts on the Cloud
Database products for their function to provide recommendation on Cloud services.

Competency with ITSM:


Should possess a solid foundation in ITSM frameworks like ITIL and practical experience in incident
and problem management, change control processes, and service level management. Proficiency
with ITSM tools, such as ServiceNow, along with the ability to configure and customize these tools, is
essential. Strong communication, coupled with a collaborative approach, are crucial for effective
interaction with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. The candidate should demonstrate
expertise in process improvement methodologies, metrics tracking, and compliance, as well as the
ability to analyze and resolve complex IT issues. Familiarity with configuration management,
knowledge management, and risk assessment, as well as a proactive approach to continuous
improvement, are also key attributes. Additionally, experience in vendor management, training, and
documentation will be highly valued in this role.

Business Analysis and Technical Leadership:

• Engages with business and proactively seeks opportunities to deliver business value.
• Understands business requirements and effectively translates business needs and process
into technical terms, and vice versa
• Elicits and defines requirements
• Ensures appropriate business roles are engaged in solution execution.
• Participates in design reviews to ensure traceability of requirements.
• Networks with appropriate IT colleagues to determine solutions to meet business partners’
needs.
• Seeks opportunities to reuse existing processes and services to streamline support and
implementation of key systems.
• Stay abreast of tools and technologies to influence IT strategy so that it provides best usage
opportunities for business
• Ability to adapt quickly in a constantly changing environment
Required skillset:

• 5+ year’s hands-on experience with AWS services, AWS Cloudformation(CFT), CI/CD, AWS
CodePipeline, CodeBuild, databases and related technologies.
• Understands business requirements and effectively translates business needs and process
into technical terms, and vice versa. Coach and guides the junior engineers in code review,
technical queries, etc.
• Collaborate with ITSM and cross-functional teams to understand data requirements and
implement effective solutions.
• Expertise in different AWS technologies such as S3, Redshift, Lambda, Athena,Glue, etc...
and explore and learn the latest AWS technologies to provide new capabilities and
increase efficiency
• Applied knowledge of IT Service Management and implementation experience,
encompasses all the processes, procedures.
• Hands-on experience with Incident Management, Change Management, Release
Management with ITIL best practices
• Expertise in SQL and Python.
• Strong Hands-on experience in built/deploy of end-to-end project.
• Strong working experience in data lakes and data concepts.
• Advanced administration experience with AWS PaaS DB offerings such as RDS, Aurora,
DynamoDB, ElastiCache RedShift, and IaaS options i.e. Databases provisioned on EC2
instances.
• Experience in managing operational support and implementation of large-scale, enterprise
level solutions.
• Oversees and provides technical direction in design, install, configure, maintain,
troubleshoot, test, monitor, and analyze the performance of the AWS Data Instances
including AWS Postgres and SQL Server . Provide detailed usage, storage, and system
performance to management.
• Design data models, implement, automate, optimization and monitor data pipelines
• Advanced knowledge of database security, backup and recovery, and performance
monitoring standards.
• Expertise with the design of infrastructure and integration into new and existing database
systems
• Should have worked on at least 1 project involving hybrid cloud implementation.
• Should be aware of basic ITSM principles and knowledge.
• Recognize and adopt best practices in reporting and analysis: data integrity, test design,
analysis, validation, and documentation.
• Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills, be self-driven, and deliver high
quality results in a fast-paced environment.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related scientific discipline.


• 5 + years of relevant work experience – including ITSM.

Preferred Qualifications / Certifications:

• Experience working in regulated environments and with internal systems quality policies and
procedures.
• Experience in working in Scrum /agile methodologies.
• Experience in development and deployment on cloud infrastructure.
• Pharmaceutical or healthcare industry experience.
• Defining best practices and developing technical standards, design principals, best practices,
and frameworks.
• Technical curiosity and desire to innovate.
• ITIL certifications
