b. Drill
Find the value of x in the ff. equations.
1. x-10 = 7
2. 5x – 2 = 10
3. 3x + 8 = 20
4. 5x = 35
5. x/4 = 2x – 1
2. Review
Directions: Find the value of a in the ff. equation given that, b=10, c=12.
1. a = bc
2. a = b/c
3. a = c/b
4. 2a = bc/2
5. a/2 = b/c

3. Motivation
 Filipinos are fond of traveling out of town and out of the country. It is really exciting to go
out of the country. Because of technology, we can avail of different promos for cheap
airfare as well as accommodation. Have you tried to do so?
 The pupils will talk about the places they have been to. They will estimate the distance
and time they traveled.

B. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation
Video presentation about Calculating Speed, Distance, and Time.

2. Discussion
3. Fixing skills
1. Group Activity
Group Activity: Distribute an activity sheet to each group.

speed of the small robot?
 2.5 mph
 2.5 mps
 0.4 mph
 0.4 m/s

2.A truck travels between two cities according to the distance-time graph shown below.
What is the truck's average speed for the first hour? What is the truck's average speed
for the entire trip?

b. Drill
A. Identify ff. the figures.
B. Match the figures in column A with their corresponding formula (area) in column B.

Column A
Triangle Column B
Square Lxw
Rectangle Bxh
Circle ½bxh
Parallelogram πr

c=2 π r 2. Review
2

As you have learned in your previous grades or lessons, the area of a figure is the
amount of flat space that the figure covers. Area is measured in square units, such as square
inches or square cm.

Can you still remember how to find the area of:

 Rectangle
 Square
 Parallelogram
 Triangle
 Circle

3. Motivation
A. Show this facade of the house

The pupils will describe the façade of the house.

B. Look at the figure below.

C. Developmental Activities
1. Presentation
Video presentation about Area of Composite Figures.
2. Discussion
3. Fixing skills
1. Group Activity
Group Activity: Distribute an activity sheet to each group.

Find the area of the shaded region on each item. Assume that all angles that appear to be
right angles are right angles. Write your answer with complete solution on your activity
sheet.

2. Group Reporting

D. Generalization
Area is the number of square units needed to cover the surface of plane figures.

Composite figures are figures that can be segmented into two or more basic shapes.
Area of composite figures can be solved by finding the area of each shape found in the
figure. Add the areas if they are connected and subtract the areas if they overlapped with
each other.

E. Application
1. Individual Activity
Directions: Find the area of the shaded region on each item. Assume all angles that
appear to be right angles are right. Write your answer with complete solution on your
answer sheet.
F. Evaluation
Directions: Find the area of composite figures formed by any two or more of the following:
triangle, square, rectangle, circle and semi – circle. Write your answer with complete
solution on your answer sheet.
