For Sean O'Brien, it was just an ordinary night out with friends. He knew that people sometimes mocked
him for being overweight, and he was usually able to shrug it off. But this time, as well as laughing at him
in person, someone decided to publicly fat-shame him by posting a video of him dancing online, with a
hurtful comment. Sean was completely unaware of it, but the post about him was shared widely, and
it prompted a wave of abuse from immature Internet trolls.
However, as well as the cyberbullies, other people were watching. A group of women in California,
who were campaigning to encourage people to have a positive body image whatever their size, decided to
take action. They put out a message on Twitter, inviting Sean on an all-expenses- paid trip from London to
Los Angeles, to meet and dance with them. When Sean's friends first told him about the search for dancing
man, he figured it was a bit of nonsense which would soon blow over, and decided not to bother doing
anything about it.
But the movement got bigger and bigger. Sean rethought his decision, made contact, and the women -
all 1,700 of them - started raising money to throw him an extra-special party in LA. He went to the party in
California. Sean had assumed that just a few people would turn up, but he realised his mistake as soon as he
saw over 1,000 people queuing to get into the nightclub! Sean danced all night and the story of how he and
the women's group in California took a stance against cyberbullying was reported aroun the world. As a
result of the event, some of the women set up Dance Free Movement, an online forum where anyone who
felt they had been bullied or victimized could receive support. The 'dancing man' himself has become a
fundraiser for several anti-bullying charities.
Sean commented in an interview at the time that he was amazed that something which started out so
badly, had become such a positive movement. He said that he had actually never really thought about the
people who posted the original images, concluding that they must have their own insecurities, to put the
spotlight on someone else so maliciously. Sean certainly had the last laugh. We are often told that the best
idea is not to give bullies any attention, but it may be that the best way to deal with cyberbullying is to act as
these women did and be brave enough to make it clear that we are uncomfortable with this kind of behaviour,
that we disagree with what is being said and that bullying is completely unacceptable.

Australians place a high value on independence and personal choice. This means that a teacher or course
tutor will not tell students what to do, but will give them a number of options and suggest they work out
which one is the best in their circumstances. It also means that they are expected to take action if something
goes wrong and seek out resources and support for themselves.

Trang 3
Tập Đoàn Giáo Dục Quốc Tế Nam Việt Trường TiH – THCS – THPT Nam Việt

Australians are also prepared to accept a range of opinions rather than believing there is one truth. This
means that in an educational setting, students will be expected to form their own opinions and defend the
reasons for that point of view and the evidence for it.
Australians are uncomfortable with differences in status and hence idealise the idea of treating everyone
equally. An illustration of this is that most adult Australians call each other by their first names. This concern
with equality means that Australians are uncomfortable taking anything too seriously and are even ready to
joke about themselves.
Australians believe that life should have a balance between work and leisure time. As a consequence,
some students may be critical of others who they perceive as doing nothing but study. Australian notions of
privacy mean that areas such as financial matters, appearance and relationships are only discussed with close
friends. While people may volunteer such information, they may resent someone actually asking them unless
the friendship is firmly established. Even then, it is considered very impolite to ask someone what they earn.
With older people, it is also rude to ask how old they are, why they are not married or why they do not have
children. It is also impolite to ask people how much they have paid for something, unless there is a very good
reason for asking.

Câu 37: Which of the following is NOT true, according to the passage?

The world is getting smaller, at least when it comes to language. More and more people speak the three
most common languages: English, Spanish, and Mandarin. As a result, local languages are being forgotten.
As cultures adjust to these changes, and languages aren't taught to children or spoken at home, these local
languages are slowly disappearing.
A language is said to be in trouble when less than 30 percent of children in the community speak it. It is
considered a dying language. If children no longer learn to use a language, it will have fewer and fewer
speakers over time and, eventually, the language will be gone. Why keep languages alive? Languages hold the
key to understanding a culture's beliefs and values. According to Dr. Cumberland, who is working to save
Assiniboine, a Native American language, a dying language needs a dictionary and people to understand and
record its grammar. Most importantly, you need to listen to those who still speak the language. This can be
very difficult, especially if there are very few speakers of the language left. For example, when researchers
were working to save the language Ayapaneco in Mexico, it was hard for them to record anything because the
last two people on Earth who could speak the language refused to speak to each other! Today, the United
Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) lists more than 3,000 languages that
may disappear by the end of this century. Some of the languages still have a few million speakers and may
survive. Unfortunately, hundreds of languages have fewer than 25 speakers remaining and may soon be lost
forever.

ChatGPT is a state-of-the-art language model developed by OpenAI, which has become increasingly
popular due to its versatility and ability to respond to natural language. Like any technology, ChatGPT has
both advantages and disadvantages.
One of the main advantages of ChatGPT is its ability to process and respond to language in a natural
and direct way. This makes it highly adaptable to many applications, such as virtual assistants, customer
service chatbots, and language translation. It can also save time and money for companies by automating
tasks that would normally require human labor. Another advantage of ChatGPT is its ability to continuously
learn and improve through training on large amounts of data. This means that the model can become
increasingly accurate and effective over time, leading to better user experiences and improved efficiency.
However, there are also several potential disadvantages of ChatGPT. One concern is the possibility of
misuse or abuse of the technology, such as generating fake news or conducting cyberattacks like the current
apps. This is especially concerning as the model can create convincing texts that are quite similar to human-
generated ones. Another concern is the potential for bias in the language model, as it is trained on data that
may contain unknown biases or inaccuracies. This can lead to discriminatory responses or even promote
existing biases. Furthermore, the deployment of ChatGPT can also affect the job market, as it may replace
human workers in certain industries. As a result, more and more people are jobless, and serious social
problems such as violence or robbery may arise.

Trang 7
Tập Đoàn Giáo Dục Quốc Tế Nam Việt Trường TiH – THCS – THPT Nam Việt

In conclusion, while ChatGPT has numerous benefits in terms of language processing and machine
learning, it is crucial to consider and address potential drawbacks such as the possibility of misuse, bias, and
impact on the job market. To ensure the responsible development and deployment of this technology, it is
important to prioritize ethics and transparency, as well as to find more inclusive and effective solutions.

American jazz is a mixture of sounds borrowed from such varied sources as American and African folk
music, European classical music, and Christian gospel songs. One of the recognizable characteristics of jazz
is its use of improvisation: certain parts of the music are written out and played the same way by various
performers, and other improvised parts are created spontaneously during a performance and vary widely from
performer to performer.
The earliest form of jazz was ragtime, lively songs or rags performed on the piano, and the best- known of
the ragtime performers and composers was Scott Joplin. Born in 1868 to former slaves, Scott Joplin earned
his living from a very early age playing the piano in bars along the Mississippi. One of his regular jobs was

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the answer
to each of the questions.
In the first half of the nineteenth century, the U.S. government decided that it needed to set up a system
for protecting its coastline. It then began building a series of forts along the coast of the eastern part of the
country to facilitate its defenses.
The largest of these forts was Fort Jefferson, which was begun in 1846. This fort was built on Garden
Key, one of a cluster of small coral islands 70 miles west of Key West. At the time of its construction Fort
Jefferson was believed to be of primary strategic importance to the United States because of its location at
the entryway to became known as the the Gulf of Mexico. Because of its location at the entrance to a great
body of water, Gibraltar of the Gulf, in reference to the island located at the mouth of the Mediterranean. The
fort itself was a massive structure. It was hexagonal in shape, with 8- foot-thick walls, and was surrounded
by a medieval-style moat for added security. Covering most of the Garden Key, it was approximately half a
mile in circumference.
In the latter half of the nineteenth century, during the Civil War and its aftermath, the fort was used as a
prison rather than a military installation. The most notorious of its prisoners was Dr. Samuel Mudd, a
physician who was the most probably innocently involved in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln. The

actual assassin, John Wilkes Booth, broke his leg as he left from the stage of the Ford Theater during the
assassination. Dr. Mudd set Booth's broken leg, unaware of Booth's involvement in the assassination. As a
result of this action, Dr. Mudd was sentenced to life in prison and remanded to Fort Jefferson. He was
pardoned after only four years because of his courageous efforts in combating an epidemic
of yellow fever that ravaged the fort.
Continuous use of Fort Jefferson ended in the 1870s, although the U.S. Navy continued with sporadic
use of it into the twentieth century. Today, the massive ruins still remain on the tiny island that stands guard
over the entrance to the gulf, undisturbed except for the occasional sightseer who ventures out from the coast
to visit.

Pollutants are clogging up the atmosphere above our planet and trapping the sun's heat. That makes our
planet warmer, which causes glaciers to melt, crazy weather patterns to develop, and natural disasters spread
like wildfires.
But there are other consequences that people don't always associate with climate change. One surprising
fact about global warming is that it makes people more aggressive.
As the world gets hotter, tempers also get fierier. A new study found that violent crimes and even war
become more likely as temperatures rise. Heart rates tend to be elevated in warm weather, so people are
prepped for a physical response to a situation. That’s not to say we're headed for a violent end as Earth warms
up, though. Advances in everything from technology to health have sparked a decline in conflict. It's just that
global warming might be slowing that decline. Climate change increases the amount of smog in the air and
causes plants to produce more pollen, according to the Natural Resources Defense Council. Those combine
to make breathing harder for people, which can be especially tricky for people with asthma and other
respiratory illnesses.

answer to each of the questions
A rather surprising geographical feature of Antarctica is that a huge freshwater lake, one of the world's
largest and deepest, lies hidden there under four kilometers of ice. Now known as Lake Vostok, this huge
body of water is located under the ice block that comprises Antarctica. The lake is able to exist in its unfrozen
state beneath this block of ice because its waters are warmed by geothermal heat from the earth's core. The
thick glacier above Lake Vostok actually insulates it from the frigid temperatures on the surface.
The lake was first discovered in the 1970s while a research team was conducting an aerial survey of the
area. Radio waves from the survey equipment penetrated the ice and revealed a body of water of indeterminate
size. It was not until much more recently that data collected by satellite made scientists aware of the
tremendous size of the lake; the satellite-borne radar detected an extremely flat region where the ice remains
level because it is floating on the water of the lake.
The discovery of such a huge freshwater lake trapped under Antarctica is of interest to the scientific
community because of the potential that the lake contains ancient microbes that have survived for thousands
upon thousands of years, unaffected by factors such as nuclear fallout and elevated ultraviolet light that have
affected organisms in more exposed areas. The downside of the discovery, however, lies in the difficulty of
conducting research on the lake in such a harsh climate and in the problems associated with obtaining
uncontaminated samples from the lake without actually exposing the lake to contamination. Scientists are
looking for possible ways to accomplish this.

The Singapore Science Centre is located on a six-hectare site in Jurong. At the centre, we can discover the
wonders of science and technology in a fun way. Clap your hands and colorful bulbs will light up. Start a
wheel spinning and it will set off a fan churning. It is a place to answer our curiosity and capture our
imagination.
The centre features over four hundred exhibits covering topics like solar radiation, communication, electronics,
mathematics, nuclear energy, and evolution. It aims to arouse interest in science and technology among us and
the general public. The centre is the first science one to be established in Southeast Asia. It was opened in 1977
and it now receives an average of one thousand two hundred visitors a day. The exhibits can be found in four
exhibition galleries. They are the Lobby, Physical Sciences, Life Sciences and Aviation. These exhibits are
renovated annually so as to encourage visitors to make return visits to the centre.
Instead of the usual “Hands off’ notices found in exhibition halls, visitors are invited to touch and feel the
exhibits, push the buttons, turn the cranks or pedals. This is an interesting way to learn science even if you
hate the subject. A Discovery Centre was built for children between the ages of three and twelve. This new
exhibition gallery was completed in 1985. Lately this year a stone-age exhibit was built. It shows us about the
animals and people which were extinct.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct
answer to each of the questions from 44 to 50.
Today we take electricity for granted and perhaps we do not realize just how useful this discovery has been.
Steam was the first invention that replaced wind power. It was used to drive engines and was passed through
pipes and radiators to warm rooms. Petrol mixed with air was the next invention that provided power. Exploded
in a cylinder, it drove a motor engine. Beyond these simple and direct uses, those forms have not much
adaptability.
On the other hand, we make use of electricity in thousands of ways. From the powerful voltages that drive
our electric trains to the tiny current needed to work a simple calculator, and from the huge electric magnet in
steel works that can lift 10 tons to the tiny electric magnet in a doorbell, all are powered by electricity. An
electric current can be made with equal ease to heat a huge mass of molten metal in a furnace, or to boil a jug
for a cup of coffee.

Other than atomic energy, which has not as yet been harnessed to the full, electricity is the greatest power
in the world. It is flexible, and so adaptable for any task for which it is wanted. It travels so easily and with
incredible speed along wires or conductors that it can be supplied instantly over vast distances.
To generate electricity, huge turbines or generators must be turned. In Australia they use coal or water to
drive this machinery. When dams are built, falling water is used to drive the turbines without polluting the
atmosphere with smoke from coal.
Atomic power is used in several countries but there is always the fear of an accident. A tragedy once
occurred at Chernobyl, in Ukraine, at an atomic power plant used to make electricity. The reactor leaked,
which caused many deaths through radiation.
Now scientists are examining new ways of creating electricity without harmful effects to the environment.
They may harness the tides as they flow in and out of bays. Most importantly, they hope to trap sunlight more
efficiently. We do use solar heaters for swimming pools but as yet improvement in the capacity of the solar
cells to create more current is necessary. When this happens, electric cars will be viable and the world will rid
itself of the toxic gases given off by trucks and cars that burn fossil fuels.
Question 44: The author mentions the sources of energy such as wind, steam, petrol in the first paragraph to
_ .
A. suggest that electricity should be alternated with safer sources of energy
B. emphasize the usefulness and adaptability of electricity
C. imply that electricity is not the only useful source of energy
D. discuss which source of energy can be a suitable alternative to electricity
Question 45: Before electricity, what was sometimes passed through pipes to heat rooms?

Question 46: What does the author mean by saying that electricity is flexible?
A. It is cheap and easy to use. B. It is used to drive motor engines.
C. It can be adapted to various uses. D. It can be made with ease.
Question 47: What do we call machines that make electricity?
A. Voltages B. Electric magnets C. Generators or turbines D. Pipes and radiators
Question 48: The word "they" in the last paragraph refers to .
