II. Family’s Situation

Jedea was one of the beneficiaries of the Child Sponsorship Program of HOPE
Worldwide Philippines in Ormoc City. As a sponsored child, her family will be provided
cash assistance to be used for Livelihood Capital every quarter for one year only.

Last 2020, Jedea’s family received Php. 3,150 cash assistance from HOPE
Worldwide Philippines for their Livelihood activity. After they received their assistance,
they decided to have a small piggery. First, the start-up is raising one pig within 3
months and after three months it will be sold off.

For the first quarter, Jedeas family was able to raise 60 kilos of the pig. Per kilo is
sold for 160 pesos. Then, they were able to sell it for Php. 10,000.00. The family’s profit
from raising and selling one pig is Php.5000.00.

The family shared that the income from hog raising in the first quarter was used
for the daily needs of the family such as food, medicine, and water. They were able also
to provide for the needs of the children in school particularly school supplies, school
projects, and daily allowances. They also shared that because of their livelihood they
were able to open a savings account for the sponsored child and deposited 500 pesos.

The family also was able to pay their monthly bills like electric bills and water
bills. They were grateful for the Child Sponsorship Program because they were able to
sustain their daily needs and save money for emergency purposes and the educational
needs of the child.

III. Assessment and Recommendation

The Child Sponsorship Program has made significant difference to the

lives of the family particularly to the child. The family is recommended to continue the
support so they could have a sustainable livelihood income to sustain the educational
needs of the child.
