OUR VISION

A world where all the

things we buy are
Made in Freedom™
slavefreetrade® is a non-profit, membership association based in Switzerland.
We exist to help SME organisations demonstrate their commitment to human
rights compliance to their constituents.

We exist to partner with ethical companies who are committed to ensuring

that any human rights issues in their operations are identified, addressed and
remediated, especially when such issues lie beneath layers of complexity.

We exist to help SME organisations contribute towards creating a world

where all the things we buy are Made in Freedom™.

OUR VISION

You can
trigger change
Modern slavery exists because we don’t see it happening.

Relying only on traditional auditing ‘track and trace’ practices, where things
are produced - factories, farms, plantations, mines, offices, etc. – helps
compliance but does not lead to system-level change.

The UN Human Rights Council, in the Guiding Principles on Business and

Human Rights, has clarified that all business enterprises have an independent
responsibility to respect human rights.

OUR “WHY”: A BOY IN A BOAT

In 2003, law-enforcement officer working in counter-

slavery operations was investigating the death of a
12-year old Khmer boy who has shot and dumped
overboard from a prawning boat (where?). The boy was
working under modern slavery conditions.
The prawns that the boat carried ended in supermarkets
across Europe (was the boy’s case solved?). The agent
went on with his career, but the memory of that boy, and
so many similar stories seen so many times in so many
countries, stroked a chord in his conscience.
That investigator is Brian Iselin, the founder and
CEO of slavefreetrade®.
