A. Preliminary Activities

a. Prayer

Let us all stand for our opening prayer. Altogether, in the name of the Father and of the
Son and of the Holy Spirit. Dear Lord, let me
see the right things, let me say the right words.
Let me hear no wrong. Guide me to the right
way today. Keep me safe from harm dear Lord.
Amen.
b. Greetings

Good morning, Grade 4 pupils! Good morning, teacher!

How are you today? We're fine teacher.

Great! That’s good to hear everybody is

fine.

Before you take your seat can you please

pick up some pieces of trashes under your (Pupils pick up the pieces of papers and arrange
chairs and tables? And please arrange your their rows and column)
column and rows to make it straight.

If done, you may now take your seats. Thank you, teacher!

c. Checking of Attendance

Let me check your attendance class.

Who is absent today? No one teacher.

Very Good!
Everyone is present.

Let us give ourselves a three claps. (Pupils do as told)

d. Classroom Rules

I want you to listen carefully to our

classroom rules.

These are the classroom rules you need to

follow during my class:

1. Listen to the discussion.

2. Raise your hand if you want to ask
questions and clarifications.
3. Sit properly.

Am I clear? Yes, teacher!

e. Drill ( Show Me A Picture )

I will show pictures of different types of soil with

scrambled letters as their clues.

I will ask the pupils to unscramble the letters in

the form of draw lots.

1.

O I L S S O I L

2.

A L Y C C L A Y

3.

L O A M
L M A O

4.

S A N D
A N D S

f. Motivation

( I will present a picture of a man planting a

corn. )

Try to observe the picture.

 What do you think a man doing?

 What kind of plant he planted?
 Do you think plant ( corn ) can grow
anywhere?
 Why do farmers considers the type of soil
for planting ?

B. Lesson Proper

a. Presentation

Let us look back to the picture we had a

while ago.
Observe. They are all different types of soil
They are all, what?
Very good, they are all soils.

A soil has its type based on their physical

appearance.
Do you know what are the types of soil?

Later on we will discuss each one of them.

So now, what do you think is our topic this Our topic is all about soil and its type.
morning?

Great! Our topic for today is all about the soil and
its different types

b. Discussion

We are going to learn about the soil and its types.

The earth is composed of three parts namely soil,
water and air with the interaction of the sun as
the main source of energy on earth.

We have to just focus on the soil as one of the

important natural resources on earth.

Let us define what is soil?

Soils are complex mixtures of minerals, water,

air, organic matter, and countless organisms that
are the decaying remains of once-living things. It
forms at the surface of land – it is the “skin of the
earth.” Soil is capable of supporting plant life and
is vital to life on earth.

Different types of soil have different physical

characteristics. Each soil type differs in color,
texture, odor and it’s ability to hold water

There are three types of soil namely: clay,

loam and sand.

Types of Picture Characteristics

Soil
A.Clay -Particles are
packed together
tightly.
- It is sticky in
wet and has a
finest texture.
-Clay soils may
be a reddish
brown or darker
brown color and
shiny when wet.
B.Loam It is a mixture of
sand and clay.
-It contains large
amount of
decaying plants
and animals.
- It has a fine
texture.
- The color of
loamy soil can
vary depending
on the type of
organic matter
present, but it’s
typically a rich,
dark color.

C.SAND -Particles are

coarse and
loose.

-Sandy soil will

generally be a
pale brown,
beige, or gray
color but the
color can be
darker. Sandy
soil has the
largest particle
size of all the
soils.

c. Enrichment Activity

As you grasp the content of our lesson

today, we’ll move forward to an activity
to assess your understanding of the
lesson.

Direction: Write True if the statement is correct

and False if it is not.
Answers:
_____1. Soils are complex mixtures of minerals, 1.True
water, air, organic matter, and countless 2.False
organisms that are the decaying remains of once- 3.False
living things. 4.True
_____2. Sand soil has a fine texture. 5.False
_____3. Soil is capable of not supporting plant
life and is vital to life on earth.
_____4. The type of soil that is sticky in wet and
has a finest texture is clay .
_____5. The three types of soils are humus, clay
and loam.

d. Generalization

Let us review of what we have discuss

while ago.
