Question-1
In this electronic circuit, resistors 𝑅1 = 330Ω and 𝑅2 = 820Ω form a voltage divider
arrangement connected to an AC source 𝑣𝑖𝑛 (𝑡) = 20𝑠𝑖𝑛315𝑡 , 𝑉 via a rectifier circuit.
This configuration is designed to convert alternating current AC to direct current DC. The
inclusion of resistors plays a crucial role in establishing specific voltage levels with the
help of the Zener diode ZD1 . Moreover, the circuit is equipped with a filter capacitor,
𝐶1 = 10𝑢𝐹 which can be introduced into the system by closing switch S3. This capacitor
contributes to smoothing out the pulsating DC output generated by the rectifier circuit

▪ Assuming the Switches are Configured as Follows : S1 is Closed, S2 & S3 are Open.
▪ The diode are made of Silicon, use the 2nd Approx. [Practical Diode Model]
1) Calculate the Output Peak Voltage & Output Peak Current Across the Resistor R2
2) Calculate the Average DC Voltage & Average DC Current Across the Resistor R2
▪ Assuming the Switches are Configured as Follows : S1 & S3 are Closed, S2 is Open.
3) Calculate the Average DC Voltage Seen Across the Capacitor
4) Calculate the Output Power Through 𝑅2 , Making sure that the Capacitor is Connected
▪ Assuming the Switches are Configured as Follows : S1 , S2 & S3 are Closed.
5) Calculate the Minimum and Maximum New Values of 𝑅2 that Ensure the Zener Stays
in the On-State

▪ Assuming the Switches are Configured as Follows : S1, S2 & S3 are Open
6) Calculate the Output Peak Voltage Seen Across 𝑅2
7) Calculate the Average DC Voltage Seen Across 𝑅2
