LESSON 5- VGOTSKY’S SOCIO-CULTURAL THEORY

An exercise in scaffolding:

1. Choose a skill you are good in.

In my own realization, I have a little skill in many aspects however; I prefer to choose
my communication skills since I took education course were communication is the key
to interact with my future students.

2. Identify an individual to whom you can teach this skill. Somebody who will benefit
from scaffolding.

I can teach this skill in my cousin named Aniah.

3. Break down the steps you will take in teaching the skill.

To break down the steps I take in teaching communication skill to my cousin is I will
let her realize her past experiences in not having a good communication skill and to
make her analyze her own doings and give her time to process all of my teachings.
However, I’m still with her to guide her although I will let her do the other things in able
for her to develop confidence that will lead to have a better communication skill.

4. Determine how you will use scaffolding. Describe the specific actions you will do to
scaffold.

I will use scaffolding in the structure, language, and in the mindset of a person.
When it comes to the structure the moves that I will going to teach in my cousin(Aniah)
is to give her ideas and information that she will going to said in other people. On the
other hand, in language I will tell her that she needs to be aware in the culture of a
society in able to understand each other and to have a better interaction. Also, in
mindset this part is the not so easy to handle because it’s already set in the mind so the
action that I will do is to have a time to talk to her and share our thoughts in order to
form a new schema for her to change the way she thinks.

5. Describe how the learning activity went.

The learning activity went smooth and it involves applying our current knowledge in
scaffolding. Additionally, this activity evaluate me as a student on how I’m going to deal
or handle a situation and to teach a person that at some point related to the course I
take.
