ACE1000 DESCRIPTION
General
The hardware described in this manual is relevant to the ACE1000 RTU, ACE1100 FEP and
IRM1500 server (IRM1100). Not all of the components/features described below are relevant
to the ACE1100 FEP or to the IRM1100.
The RTU collects data from on-site sensors, adds data from off-site sources, and uses this data
aggregate to make decisions regarding how the system’s process is operating.
The ACE1000 is a low-cost, low-power option which can be incorporated into existing
SCADA systems, and can complement other Motorola SCADA solutions, such as the
ACE3600 family of Remote Terminal Units (RTUs).
As a low-power unit, the ACE1000 is not intended for systems with input voltage above 30 V
DC.
The Web browser-based ACE1000 Easy Configurator tool is used by authorized personnel for
configuration, monitoring, and maintenance of the ACE1000/ACE1100. In a mixed system,
the ACE1000 can be configured using the ACE3600 STS. The Web browser-based IRM1500
Easy Configurator tool is used by authorized personnel for configuration, monitoring, and
maintenance of the IRM1500 server.
The ACE1000 unit is made up of a CPU module and up to two I/O expansion modules. Figure

APPENDIX B: CABLES AND ADAPTORS
General
This appendix provides the information required for connecting an ACE1000 RTU and
ACE1100 FEP to various interfaces, as detailed below:
• Connection to a computer via RS232
• Connection to a modem via RS232
• Connection to a PLC/RTU/FEP via RS232
• Connection to a PLC/RTU/FEP via RS485
• Connection to a computer via Ethernet
• Connection to a computer via USB
• ACE1000 CPU to ACE1000 I/O Expansion Module Connection
Note: On the ACE1000 RJ45 RS232 connector, the numbering of the pins is different
than the ACE3600, as shown in the figure below. Pin 8-1 are left to right. Therefore,
only original Motorola ACE1000 cables should be used.
For information on connecting the ACE1000 to a radio via USB or RS232, see ACE1000
Radio Types and Installation Kits.
To connect the unit’s RS232 serial port to a computer, use the RS232 data cable (FKN0022),
which includes an RJ45-to-RJ45 cable (3008439S01) and an adaptor (0189968V32) with a
male 9-pin, D-type connector. Add a null modem cable (female-to-female) which is not
provided. See the figure below.
Note: The FKN0022 adaptor is not the same adaptor that is used with the ACE3600.
B-1
Appendix B: Cables and Adaptors
The signals that appear on the male 9-pin D-type connector are according to the RS232
standard. See the following table.

Appendix B: Cables and Adaptors
The unit port is defined as an MDLC protocol port. For RS232-RTU/FEP connectivity, the
port is defined as RTU-to-RTU with no flow control. Both null modem cables are supported,
with or without flow control, because the FEP or RTU ignore these signals.
The signals that appear on the male 9-pin D-type connector are according to the RS232
standard. See the following tables.
B-4
Appendix B: Cables and Adaptors
Table B-4 RS232-PLC/RTU/FEP Connection Pin Out with Partial Flow Control
The signals that appear on the female 9-pin D-type connector are according to the RS485
standard with internal 120 Ω resistance. See the following table.
B-5
Appendix B: Cables and Adaptors
To connect the RTU LAN port to a computer via Ethernet, use a standard Ethernet cable.
In the Google Chrome™ web browser on your computer, enter the allocated IP address of the
