Report on Science Fest -2023

On 13th and 14th January 2023, St. John Technical & Educational Campus,
Palghar organised a Science Fest which was an intellectual feast of knowledge
for all in the form of Science Fest-2023. It was arranged on the Mini playground
and high school quadrangle. High school as well as Junior College students and
teachers actively participated in this fest. Participants’ fresh ideas, innovative
projects and scientific/technical concepts motivated young scientists and
technocrats.
The chief guest for the science fest was Dr. Kiran Save, Principal of Sonopant
Dandekar Arts, Commerce and Science College Palghar. The fest was
inaugurated at the hands of Dr. Kiran Save and Mrs. Elaine D’souza Buthello,
treasurer, of Aldel Education Trust Dr. Kiran Save and Mrs. Elaine D’souza
Buthello addressed the gathering and motivated the participants. Besides, Dr.
Savita Tauro, Deputy Campus Director and Principal, SJIPR, Dr. Gopal V.
Mulgund, Principal SJCEM, Dr. Brajabandhu Das, Principal, SJCHS Mrs.
Suchita Gharat, Principal, SJJC Sister Veena Monteiro, Principal, SJIS, Mr.
Sateesh Shetty, General Manager, SJCEM were present for the inaugural as
well as Validictory function.
In this Science Fest a total of 53 stalls were installed at the St. John Campus. In
all, 150 external and 80 internal participants actively presented and explained
their projects to all the visitors. Not only the students and faculties of the
campus but also1800+ out siders visited and witnessed the fest. Dr. Gopinath
Nagargoje, Vice-principal of Sonopant Dandekar Arts, Commerce and Science
College Palghar, was the invited judge to evaluate all the projects. Cash prizes
of worth Rs. 30,000/- were rewarded to the respective winners.
Mr. Albert W D’Souza along with Dr. Gopichand Nagargoje felicitated and
rewarded the winners from Junior Colleges.
The details of Jr. College and School winners in the science fest are as follows:
First Prize- City Cleanliness by Burning Plastic-SJJC Palghar
Second Prize Tracking Air Quality-Don Bosco School and Junior College,
Boisar
Third Prize Hydroponic Tower Garden-Sanskruti Junior college, Lalonde
Mrs. Elvina D’Souza along with Dr. Savita Tauro felicitated and rewarded the
respective winners from Schools.

First Prize: Hyerloop- SJIS, Palghar

Second Prize: Multipurpose Bicycle- Shri S T Kadam Vidyalaya, Palghar

Third Prize: Hydropower- Adarsh vidya Mandir, Kelve

The main aim of the fest was to throw light on the importance of science and
technology. Participants explained various concepts to students of age 13 to 18
years. The major focus was on sustainable innovation in agriculture, energy
environment, health and latest technology so that children could figure out what
they want to do in future.

The science fest opened visitors’ eyes towards the fact that technology is making
a better place for us. The technology and manpower should walk along each
other. On the whole, it was an amazing experience that improved visitors’
knowledge and skills.

Mr. Melroy Crasta, Ms. Kashish Mishra, Mr. Prashant Shukla and Ms Sakshi
Sing compered the fest. Vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Kiran Beldar who
was the coordinator of the fest. All the team members took sincere efforts for
making this event as a grand success.
