Virtual Laboratory Activity - BIOL 1121 - Unit 1

Data Collection and Result

While you are working on this virtual lab activity, please record your data in the tables
below.

1. Data Collection Tables

a. Macro Mode

No. Solution pH Nature

1. Milk 6.50 Slightly
Acidic
2. Chicken 5.80 Acidic
Soup
3 Orange 3.50 Very Acidic
Soup
4. Vomit 2.00 Extremely
Acidic
5. Blood 7.40 Slightly

b. Micro Mode

No. Solution pH H 3 O+ OH-

1. Milk 6.50 3.2×10^-7 3.2×10^-8
2. Chicken 5.80 1.6×10^-6 6.3×10^-9
Soup
3 Orange 3.50 3.2×10^-4 3.2×10^-11
Soup
4. Vomit 2.00 1.0×10^-2 1.0×10^-12
5. Blood 7.40 4.0×10^-9 2.5×10^-7

c. My Solution Mode

No. pH H 3 O+ OH-
1. 3 1.0×10^-3

2. Question
Calculate the pH of a solution that has a hydronium concentration of 7.1x10-2 M.

Answer:

pH = -log[H3O+]
pH = -log(7.1×10^-2)
pH = -log(0.071)
pH = 1.15

3. Conclusion
Write a conclusion about this virtual lab activity in 5-6 sentences.

In this virtual lab experiment, the macro and micro analysis of different solutions showed
their differences in acidity and basicity levels.
In the macro mode, Milk indicated a slightly Acidic nature at pH of 6.50 and others such as
chicken soup, orange juice, vomit indicated full time acidity but in different acidity levels.
Blood indicated a pH of 7.40 which is slightly Basic level.
In the micro mode, Milk indicated a more balanced concentration of hydronium and
hydroxide ions. Chicken soup presented a higher hydronium ion concentration, Orange juice
and Vomit demonstrated a very high hydronium concentration and very low hydroxide ion
concentration. Lastly, Blood indicated a very low hydronium concentration and hydroxide
ion concentration. In summary, this experiment provides valuable insights into their
different acidity and basicity levels in both macro and micro mode.
