What do you want to achieve over the final 8 weeks on the

Foundation Programme?

Please respond to the questions below as a starting point. This

document is a Prop/Prompt for you and your developed answers
should be loaded as a scribd document in an appropriate position
on your Weebly site. You will update this proposal as you move
through the project, do not delete initial statements, add a date
each time you add a new statement to a particular section.

The final document should be loaded to your Weebly by the 6th of

Question 1
Reflect on your work you've created so far and consider on how your use of materials,
tools, techniques and processes reflect the broader ideas and message that you are interested to
convey.

What materials, tools, techniques and processes have you used and how can you employ a broader
range of materials and techniques to explore your theme in Module 3?

So far, on this course I have had the opportunity to explore a wide range of materials, tools,
techniques and processes. Through these experiences, I have experimented with a variety of
mark-making techniques, including both traditional and non-traditional methods. 05/04/24
For instance, I have delved into the world of sound and music as a source of inspiration for my
creations. I have also explored the fun and random world of collaging, which enabled me to
combine various materials, textures, and colours to produce unique and expressive pieces of art.

I have worked with a variety of mediums, including fine-liner pens, ink, watercolour, and acrylic
paints. I have even tried printmaking, carving my own Lino motifs for a repeat print. As well as
exploring digital and graphic art, using Adobe software for film and photo editing.

In addition to two-dimensional art forms, I have delved into three-dimensional forms, like
woodwork, paper engineering, bookbinding, mod roc, polymer clay, and polymorph. This has
allowed me to add a new level of depth and meaning to my work as well as challenging myself to
push the boundaries of my own creativity. I am eager to continue honing these skills, potentially
even creating a sculpture of some kind. 05/04/24

The most memorable projects for me have definitely been those involving the craft of a three-
dimensional object. One project that stands out was when I collaborated with a group to craft a
costume entirely out of cardboard and scrap materials. This project helped me to develop my
collaboration skills, as well as my understanding of three dimensional shapes and forms. Another
project I enjoyed was making a "Enchanted Fairy Garden” inside a cardboard box using twigs and
 other found materials and items. And I really took pleasure in applying some paper engineering
skills that we had been taught to create an intricately designed book.

I have developed an interest in exploring the human experience through my art, focusing on
childhood, nostalgia, growing up, and the concept of the inner child. I wish to continue creating
artwork that conveys these messages and themes, but using a three-dimensional form to add
depth and meaning to my work. 16/04/24

Question 2
Reflect upon the audience and method of dissemination for your work.

What does it communicate and who is it communicating to? What does it offer to the
viewer/customer/client and their lifestyle? Where will the work be situated? How can you market
your work?

I am looking to connect with people who are going through similar stages of life as myself - those
who are experiencing the significant changes of young adulthood or adolescence.
This is a confusing and dramatic time marked by physical and emotional growth as one tries to
understand themselves and navigate the world around them, and so I want to create some art
that relates to this audience and speaks out to them on a deeper level.

My artistic interests revolve around exploring themes that touch upon our shared human
experience, such as childhood, nostalgia, and the passage of time. Through my creative
endeavours, I aim to respond to these messages and themes, and I hope to continue doing so in
the future. My ultimate goal is to evoke an emotional response from my audience when they view

The piece I'm working on will be elevated on a plinth, positioned in a way that allows viewers to
appreciate it from all angles. Its physical form can be carefully touched and closely examined,
adding to the overall experience. It could be captured in photographs and shared digitally or even
featured in a publication.
I could also create custom dolls that are tailored to the client's traits, appearance, and interests to

Furthermore, I plan on printing and selling illustrations of the piece on a grand scale as a wall
display or in a smaller format as a print or poster. These could also be shared online or in a
publication. I believe that online sharing is crucial, especially in today's world, as it offers an

We make, design, and produce work to be shared, and to elicit a reaction or provoke a response.

What response would you like to provoke in your Audience/Client/Viewer/User? Are you the kind of
designer/artist/producer who aims to disrupt - to entertain or to question? Is your work ironic,
playful, educational or political? Use this space to think about the response of your target audience
on viewing your work - how do you want them to react? What is an ideal response?

I aim to create artwork with a lasting impression that evokes an emotional response in the viewer,
allowing them to relate personally to it and reflect on their own childhood experiences. 16/04/24

My goal is to generate a sense of nostalgia and encourage the viewer to think deeply about my
work and how it relates to their own life.
 My target audience is at an age where they are transitioning from dependence to independence,
and I hope my artwork can be a part of their reflective journey towards self-discovery and

Task 1 – Part 1

What is your Project Concept?

In previous projects, we have focused on outcomes or objects, for this module we

are expecting you to design an investigation and for this to lead to an appropriate
outcome/object which embraces your specialism and matches your burgeoning
ambition.
Please outline the project themes - and the ideas that you wish to explore. Focus on the meaning
behind the work rather than processes, materials or skills. (There is a space for this information
further on in the document) This is a short module - so it is critical that you make a swift decision
and commit to an investigation early. We know that this is hard - but push yourself and work to
get to the making, design and production stage with confidence.

For this module, I am deeply interested in delving into the themes of Childhood, Nostalgia, and
the Passage of Time. As an artist, my passion has always been illustration and character creation,
with a particular focus on the human form, and I want to continue doing so for this module.

I have recently been interested in experimenting with three-dimensional forms, and I want to take
this further in this module to develop my illustrations and characters. I think this approach will
help me expand my creative skills and move beyond the traditional methods of drawing and
painting that I've relied on in the past. By exploring my themes and messages in three dimensions,
I hope to add a new level of depth and meaning to my work as well as challenge myself to push
the boundaries of my own creativity.

My goal for this module is to create a collection of work that reflects universal experiences of
childhood, nostalgia, and the passage of time while displaying my unique perspective and artistic

What will your work look like? What technologies/tools/equipment/processes will you use?

I am planning to create a three-dimensional doll as a part of my project. 16/04/24

To make this doll, I will be using various techniques, processes, equipment, and tools such as air-
drying clay, foam, wire, mod roc, wood, a hot glue gun, tacky glue, a handheld saw, scissors, and
pliers. 20/04/24
I will also apply the skills that I have learned from the costume module to create an outfit for the
doll using scrap materials.
 As I am most comfortable with acrylic paint, I will use it to paint and illustrate the features and

What skills will you need to develop in order to complete the work?
What will you need to learn? What existing strengths do you have that can help you to succeed?

To achieve my goals, there are certain skills and procedures that I need to learn. These include
skills and understanding in doll making, sculpture, and working with air-drying clay, as well as how
to safely bend and mould wire. Additionally, I need to further develop my skills in mod roc and

What will you do to sustain your practice and to develop your motivation,
understanding and confidence?
This focus of this question is your research practice - what has already inspired, informed and
influenced you? How can you push yourself beyond your comfort zone here?

To sustain my art practice and develop my motivation, understanding, and confidence, I plan to
conduct plenty of research and potentially visit the UWE library. I will ensure I only explore art
that inspires and interests me, and respond to themes I am passionate about, with the aim to
deliver a message that I am proud of.

To push myself out of my comfort zone, I will not limit myself to creating canvas paintings alone,
or 2D images. Instead, I will utilise multiple skills to construct a three-dimensional piece, aiming to
research methods on how to sculpt and mould the human form, rather than just painting and

Task 1 – Part 2

This is a short module - and scheduling your activity and planning out your production arc will
help to ensure that you keep the project on track, with time to make a quality artefact for the
exhibition. The best project concept in the world will not lead to a successful outcome without
good, pragmatic planning. Remember, gathering or "procuring" materials will take time - and
supplier availability and high costs will slow you down and impact on your ability to make work.
You must factor this into your schedule. A prohibitively high cost on a particular material or item
may prompt you to investigate a more easily sourced and cheaper alternative, which can
improve your carbon footprint - and improve the "sustainability" of the project.

Sustainability
Use this page to identify aspects of your project relating to sustainability, unnecessary waste,
and environmental concerns. What might you do to manage this and reduce your impact? If you
can’t manage it directly, could you take action to offset your carbon footprint? How will you plan

To ensure sustainability, I plan to use scrap and recycled materials for my project, especially for
the dress of my doll. I can source these materials from the 'Children's Scrapstore' in Bristol, my
studio space, on-campus resources, or from the materials I already have at home. Any excess
materials that I do not use, I will dispose of correctly by recycling them. I will also consider keeping
them for future projects or giving them to someone else who may need them.

 To accomplish my final artwork and achieve my goals, I need to establish deadlines and organise
