I. Objectives

In this lesson, the students are going to able to know and do:

1. define the tone, mood, technique, and purpose of text


2. Identify the tone, mood, technique, and purpose in narrative
3. Describe and explain the tone, mood, technique, and purpose of text

II. Subject Matter

Topic : Capitalizing on Strengths and Recognizing our Weaknesses

Reference : 10 English Quarter 1- Module 1 Discovering Personal Challenges

Celebrating Diversity through World Literature, p.58

Materials: Pictures, visual aids, and blackboard

Procedure:

1. Activity (15 minutes)- The teacher will post pictures on the board which display material objects
and places of tone, mood, and purpose of text. The teacher will ask the students to identify the
pictures and explain.
2. Analysis- What will happen to the story without the tone, mood, technique and purpose of text?
Why tone, mood, technique and purpose of story are important?

3. Abstraction (25 minutes)


 The teacher will give the class a time to read a short story of “Orpheus” by Alice Low.
 The teacher will ask the class about the tone, mood, technique and purpose of the story.
 The teacher will post the visual aids and explain the tone, mood, technique and purpose
of the story.

Tone The tone in a story indicates a particular


feeling. It can be joyful, serious, humorous,
sad, threatening, formal, informal,
pessimistic, or optimistic.
Examples of tone in a story include just about
any adjective you can imagine.

Mood A mood is a feeling or a person's specific state
of mind at any particular time. A mood is also
the prevailing emotion found not only in
people but also in literature, music, and other
expressive arts.

Mood Examples:

 Cheerful
 Content
 Dreamy
 Ecstatic

Technique Narrative technique is the way in


which a writer conveys what they
want to say to their reader and the
methods that they use to develop a
story.

The individual elements of different


narrative techniques can be broken
down into six distinct categories:

 Character
 Perspective
 Plot
 Setting
 Style
 Theme
Purpose Story writing is an ancient art form that has
been used to entertain, educate, and inform
people for centuries. It is a way to share
experiences and feelings and to let people
know about different cultures and ways of
life.
