NCC REPORT- 2020-21

The National Cadet Corps (​NCC​) is a tripartite service organization in which the Army, Navy
and Air Force are involved. It aims to transform the country's youth into decent and patriotic
citizens. NCC is the largest voluntary youth organization in the world, considering the
broader benefits, opportunities and reservations. Due to the pandemic, cadets could not
participate in the annual training camps, national level camps and social events.
Nonetheless, everybody had adjusted to the new normal. Cadets used various video
conferencing platforms to conduct the events, and interact with each other. Some of the
events that were conducted in the year 2020-2021 are as follows:

EVENTS:
1. Online classes: B​ ecause of the pandemic, all the theory and practical classes were
conducted online with the help of video conferencing platforms like Zoom and Google
Meet. Around 20 online classes were conducted between September to December
from 6.30 AM to 9.30 AM. All the topics mentioned in the new training curriculum
were taught to the cadets.

2. Covid-19 Institutional Training: ​On 8 May 2020, all the cadets had completed the
Covid-19 Training initiated by Diksha and Department Of Personnel Training,
Government of India. All the cadets from the three wings were awarded certificates
on completion.
3. Covid-19 Awareness Programme: ​On 12 May 2020, an elocution competition was
conducted for the cadets on the topic: ‘What are the precautions to be taken during
the pandemic and how different age groups should tackle the situation. On 18 May, a
video was made compiling the student’s opinions on the topics.

4. International Day of Yoga: ​On June 2020, cadets had participated in the online
event of International Yoga Day organized by the government of India. A video was
made for the same.

5. Spit Free India Movement- ​During June- August 2020, cadets were awarded a
certificate for participating in the Spit Free India Movement initiated by the National
Service Scheme. All the cadets from the three wings received e-certificates after
taking the pledge.

6. International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking: ​An online seminar
was held on the topic ‘Prevention of Substance Abuse on 26 June 2020, from 11 AM
to 2 PM.
7. AatmaNirbhar Bharat: ​On 4 August 2020, cadets had actively taken part in the
Aatmanirbhar Bharat or Make in India campaign. A video was made combining all the
activities done by the cadets. Cadets had even taken the ‘VocalparLocal’ pledge and
were awarded a certificate. All the cadets from the three wings received e-certificates
after taking the pledge.

8. ​Fit India Campaign: ​On 12 September 2020, cadets had taken up the Fit India
Challenge initiated by our Honourable Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A video was
made compiling different forms of exercises done by the cadets.

9. Grace Cancer Run: ​ On 10 October 2020, cadets had participated in the online
edition of Grace Cancer Run 2021 organized by the Grace Cancer Foundation.
Cadets had to run 5k or 10k marathon in the vicinity of their homes and upload the
videos online on Facebook. Cadets and the ANO had collected and contributed
rupees 8500 for the cause.

10. Disaster Relief Activity: ​Cadet Nida Firdous, BA III, was part of the disaster
assistance community and had engaged in relief service during the floods in
Hyderabad on 15 October 2020.

11. Constitution Day: ​ On 18th November 2020, all the cadets tuned to the DG NCC
YouTube Channel from 10.45 AM onwards to participate in the Constitution Day
celebrations. In the same event, Cadet Chakrita of BSC II had participated in the
poem reciting competition and declared winner from our directorate. The event was
appreciated by the respected DG NCC and Hon’ble Defence Minister Shri Rajnath
Singh.

12. Save KBR Park: ​On 2nd December 2021, all the cadets had signed an online
petition written to the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change to
stop the construction of flyover over the KBR National Park and protect its
biodiversity.

13. Selection for First Years:​ Around 250 students from the First year had enrolled for
NCC. From 16th to 18th December, preliminary selections were held for Army Wing.
Physical endurance tests like running, marching and Group discussions were
conducted. Finally, 119 students were shortlisted for the final selections. On 19th
December, the final selection was done by the Commanding Officer of 1(T) Girls
Battalion Colonel Ramanujan Singh.
The selections for Navy Wing and Air Wing were held on 5th January 2021 and 12th
January 2021 respectively.
ACHIEVERS:

1. The rank awarding ceremony was held on 19th December 2020. The cadets who had
exemplary performance in the year 2019-20 were honoured with ranks.
- P Vaishnavi of BA MLP III was awarded the rank of Senior Under Officer
- T. Yukta Reddy of BSC III was awarded the rank of Senior Under Officer
- Maria Cyrilla Francis of BA MLP III was awarded the rank of Junior Under
Officer
- G Keerthan of BSC III was awarded the rank of Junior Under Officer
- Amisha Chauhan of BSC III was awarded the rank of Sergeant
- Teresa Jacob of BCOM III was awarded the rank of Corporal
- Himani Sharma of BA MLS III was awarded the rank of Lance Corporal

2. Cadet Sowmya, B.A. PPP II has participated in Republic Day Camp 2021, New
Delhi, in the ‘Best Cadet’ category (Navy wing) from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana
Directorate, NCC.
3. Cadet Harshitha and Cadet Nikhila Nancy of Air Wing participated in the online
edition of Ek Bharat Shresth Bharat Camp- 2020 (EBSB) organized by NER
Directorate.

4. SUO P Vaishnavi has been awarded a cash prize of rupees 3500 for securing a
silver medal in IUC-RDC 2020 in the Best Cadet Category. She was also present
during the annual inspection of 1 Telangana Girls Battalion unit by the Group
Commander, Secunderabad Group, Colonel M.K.Singh.

5. SUO Maria Cyrilla Francis received the Youth Award 2021 from Justice Chandraiah,
Hon'ble Chairman, Human Rights Commission, Telangana State on the occasion of
International Youth Day, 12 January 2020.

No matter how difficult it was, each and every cadet actively participated in all the
activities. The online events had helped the cadets to learn and utilize the new
technology, come up with creative and out-of-the-box ideas to conduct events. Thus,
the motto of ​‘Unity and Discipline​’ was lived up to, even in the times of pandemic.
