EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The purpose of this study is to provide recommendation for the problems in

Midsayap Municipal Police Station such as the case vehicular accidents. This study will

also elaborate the different factors that cause vehicular accidents. This study will also

help neighboring Municipalities in preventing vehicular accidents. The study will also

help the well-being of the community.

Introduction

Road traffic accidents are considered the most important general health concern, as it

results in numerous injuries and deaths worldwide. Municipality of Midsayap is one of

the Municipalties that have a severe problem in terms of traffic. Since it was a town there

were so many buildings and vehicles entering the town causes traffic every day. Traffic is

inevitable since the world is advancing. All we can do is to prevent accident by making

rules and road widening.

Problem

Many factors affects vehicular accidents one of these is environmental factors

and stress plays a vital role in causing major road traffic accidents. Other important

factors such as the age of the vehicle, safety measures, human error and time and place of

accident decide the fatalities and the seriousness of the accidents. Human error seems to

be the major cause in majority of vehicular accidents just like in the Bual Norte

accident where the driver forgot that there was a dead end. Human error is also caused by

stress due to economic or family problems. Such a state of mind makes them cause road

accidents. Carelessness is one of the causes of road accidents in the Municipality of

Midsayap. Some of the examples include using mobile phone while driving a vehicle just

like what happened in Poblacion 8 Midsayap Cotabato where the driver was using a cell

phone and he do not know that there is a person crossing the road causing them collision,

and emerging from a side road into the path of another vehicle.

Over speeding is also one of the reasons as injury severity increases with collision

speed and the lack of head protection accounts for the most severe but it is preventable

injuries. Insufficiently experienced drivers and authorizing improperly trained drivers and

insufficient knowledge of traffic signs tend to increase the number of road traffic

accidents. Another important cause for alarming increase in number of road

accidents is driving of vehicle in drunken state. Under the influence of alcohol and

other intoxicated substances, the drivers lose the self-consciousness and control over the

vehicle which ultimately forms the reason for accidents. One of its examples is accident

in Central Katingawan where the driver hit the parking Montero car beside the road

because he was drunk and out of control of his motorcycle. He was thrown in the coconut

tree but because he was wearing a helmet the injuries is not that fatal.

Lack of sensitivity and responsibility on the part of state authorities also forms

one of the reasons. The human sensibility and life respecting emotions of state

authorities, to look into situations on the roads like dim traffic lights also causes accidents

if not properly maintained. One of the accident that involves the low maintenance of

traffic lights and signs is the accident happened in Poblacion 8 where the car was hit in

the traffic sign because the sign don’t have reflector to be seen by the motorist.

Definition of terms

Traffic accident- A car accident, also referred to as a “traffic collision,” or a

“motor vehicle accident,” occurs when a motor vehicle strikes or collides another vehicle,

a stationary object, a pedestrian, or an animal. While some car accidents result only in

property damage, others result in severe injuries or death.

Traffic lights- are lights used to control the movement of traffic. They are placed

at road intersections and crossings. The different colors of lights tell drivers what to do.

Traffic Education- mainly involves making the rules known and motivating each

individual to follow the traffic rules and regulations. Traffic rules are meant to encourage

a traffic flow which is as safe and smooth as possible. Breaking these rules result in an

increased risk of crashes, or a more serious outcome.

Recommendation

 In regard to the mentioned cases I recommend that there should be a

proper traffic light and road signs.

 Motorist should be educated to have knowledge about the rules on roads

and the different traffic signs.

 Authorities should enforce speed limit in those places where traffic occurs.

 Authorities should enforce the mandatory use of helmet in the whole

municipality.
