Today, I’m going to present you an article I found on BBC News by Adam

Durbin who called:

Iceland has declared a state of emergency after a series of earthquakes raised fears of a
volcanic eruption.

Last week, authorities have ordered thousands living in the southwestern

town of Grindavík to evacuate as a precaution.

Indeed, nearby to Fagradalsfjall volcano, thousands of tremors are

recorded in the recent weeks. The Icelandic Met Office (IMO) says that
magma is spreading underground and could surface in the city.

The site was dormant for eight centuries until eruptions in 2021, 2022 and
2023.

On Thursday, the seismic activity increased: more than 20 000 tremors

have been recorded since late October. Even the most famous place, The
Blue Lagoon landmark have been closed.

Iceland's Civil Protection Agency said the decision to evacuate came after
the IMO could not rule out a "magma tunnel that is currently forming could
reach Grindavík".

In a statement on Friday, the agency said people must leave the town. But
they said it was not an "emergency evacuation» calling on them to "remain
calm, because we have a good amount of time to react".

I chose this article because I love volcanoes and Iceland has the world's
largest concentration of active volcanoes in Europe and the 9th largest in
the world. The consequences of the last huge eruption in Iceland: more
than 10 000 air flies cancelled, and more than 1 million people affected.
