Basic Receiving and Dribbling

This basic soccer exercise focuses on receiving skills, dribbling and feinting skills. Cooperation, head
orientation and timing of passes are also developed by this soccer drill.

Organisation
Six or eight players are involved in this soccer drill, eight sticks or mannequins are used and placed as
shown. Distances must be considered and created adequately to the age-group. Players change their
positions continuously following their passes. The soccer dribbling exercise is performed by two balls
simultaneuosly. The variations of the soccer drills must be performed to both directions.

This soccer exercise provides a wide range of variations of feinting skills, turning and running directions
with the ball.

Speed of the performace must be raised gradually.

The rst receiving is performed by opening behind the stick in position B and D. After
receiving the ball a moderate intensity dribbling (2) to the rst yellow stick. In front of the
stick a determined fake is performed to the right (3) and player B passes the ball (5) to
position C. (In the middle fake can be a scissors fake, Zidane fake, Ronaldo fake, etc)

The rst pass (1) is received by stepping inside the stick with a moderate intensity run. The
cooperation and eye-contact between Player A and Player B (C-D) is essential. The weight of
passes are also crucial. The fakes in the middle can be also varied.

In the middle after the receiving players turn with the ball between the sticks as shown.
Intensity must be raised and reached the maximum of the good quality of performance.

• Accuracy and weight of passes are vital
• Receiving the balls in correct angle and length
• Players should use both feet to pass, receive and dribble the ball
• Heads up before passing the ball
• Harmonization of passes and movements
• Perform the task to both sides
• Use both feet and all surface to receive the ball and make fakes
• Change pace with the ball
