What I Need to Know

Welcome to this module on communicate how different


types of weather affect the activities in the community!

This module is intended to help you know how different types


of weather affects the activities in the community. It is designed to
equip you with essential knowledge of the effect of weather in our
daily activities.

HOW TO USE THIS MODULE

This module contains several lessons. To make the most out of them,
you need to do the following:
1. Scan the list of Learning Objectives to get an idea of the
knowledge and skills you are expected to gain and develop as you
study the module. These outcomes are based on the content
standards, performance standards, and learning competencies of
the K to 12 Curriculum Science 3.
2. Take the What I Know. Your score will determine your knowledge
of the lessons in the module.
3. Each Lesson aims to develop one of the learning objectives set
for the module. It starts with an activity that will help you understand
the lesson and meet the required competencies.
4. Take your time in reading this module. Write down points for
clarification. You may discuss these points with your teacher.

What’s In?

In our past lesson, we have learned that there are four types
of weather which are sunny, windy, rainy and stormy. The sun is
shinning bright, the sky is clear and there is no rain during sunny
weather. In a windy weather, there are clouds in the sky, occasional
rain showers and the wind blows gently. The cold rainy weather has
rain most of the day. The clouds are covering the sun and the wind
is moderate. Stormy weather has strong wind and dark clouds with
lightning and thunder.

Playing in the Rain

It was rainning hard. The streets were flooded.


But Ana and Marie were outside playing.
“Don’t play outside. Come inside now,”
Mother said.

Ana and Marie did not obey their mother.


They went on playing in the water. That night,
Mother stayed on bed with Ana and Marie.
“I will call a doctor,” Father said.

What did the father do?


What happened to Ana and Marie?
What would have happened if they obeyed their mother?
What happens if you play outside on rainy days?
What should you wear during rainy day to avoid getting sick?

What is It?

Weather tells us when to work and play. We plan our


activities according to the kind of weather. People use many things
to keep them comfortable and safe of every kind of weather.

Weather affects what we do during the day. When the weather


is fair and fine, we can do outdoor activities like hanging clothes to
dry, going to the park, picnic, swimming, flying kites and doing
regular farm activities like planting and plowing the field. During
rainy weather, we usually avoid going outdoors but some still visit
places like parks and resorts. Farmers can still plow the field. It’s not
good for children to go out, they will get wet in the rain. They need
to use umbrella or raincoat if need to go out. Children need to play
or study inside the house. During stormy weather, all are advised to
stay at home to avoid accidents.

Weather affects what we wear. During sunny day, we wear thin


clothes to be comfortable, we use sunglasses, umbrella and hat
when the sun is very hot and bright. During rainy day, we use
umbrella, wear raincoats and boots to keep us from getting wet.
During stormy days, we use sweaters and jackets to keep us warm.

Weather affects what we eat. On warm day, fruits like


watermelon and pineapple are refreshing to eat. Ice cream and
other frozen foods can make us feel cool. Hot soups and food rich
in carbohydrates are good for cold weather. They are good
sources of heat and energy.

Weather affects our health. Many people get sick when there
is bad weather. Exposure to cold can weaken the body. Floods
make the surroundings dirty. The water can carry waste. People get
sick like flu or influenza, cold and diarrhea.
