CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHODS AND PROCEDURES

METHODS OF THE STUDY

This study is conducted to determine the effects of smartphone on the

developmental behavior of the grade 11 students. Researchers will create a

questionnaire-checklist to be distributed answered by all the Grade-11 students of

Pasacao Academy.

This study is a combination of qualitative and quantitative research. Researchers

will use correlational approach. Through this approach it will be easy for the researchers

to know the effects of smartphones on the developmental behavior of the students.

In this study, the participants are all Grade-11 students that are enrolled in the

Pasacao Academy for the academic year 2022-2023. Those students that will participate

in the survey are namely from Section A, B, C, and D.

RESPONDENTS OF THE STUDY

The respondents of this study are all enrolled Grade-11 students of Pasacao Academy

for the academic year 2022-2023. It includes all sections from different strands.

SAMPLING TECHNIQUES

The researchers will include all enrolled grade 11 students in Pasacao Academy

for the academic year 2022-2023. Every grade 11 students will be given a chance to

participate and answer the given questionnaire checklist survey form. Therefore, there

is no need for any sampling techniques.

INSTRUMENTS OF THE STUDY

The researchers will use Questionnaire-Checklist type of form.

Questionnaire-Checklist is a form consisted of questions that can be answered by YES

or NO.

Google form will be mainly used as a way of gathering information. It is an online form

that is widely used to gather information these days.

STATISTICAL TREATMENT

The researchers will use inferential statistics such as Mean, T-test and correlational test

to collect the data.

1. Mean. To determine the average of the number of respondents, mean will be

used. It will be calculated by dividing the sum of all the data by the number of

gathered data.

It is calculated from the formula:

x

x - sum of observations

n - number of observations
2. Standard Deviation. It will be use to find the values of a particular data that is

dispersed.

It is calculated from the formula:

Σ ( Χ−μ)
=
N

X - value in the data distribution

μ - mean

N - total Number of Observations

3. T-test. It will be use to compare the means of two groups

It is calculated using the formula:

x−μ
t= σ
√n

x - mean of the sample

u -assumed mean

σ - standard deviation

n - number of observations
