5G TECHNOLOGY
PREVIOUS GENERATION NETWORKS

1G 2G 3G 4G/4G LTE
1G TECHNOLOGY
1G technology refers to the first generation
of wireless communication technology. 1G
introduced in the 1970s based on analog
telecommunications standard for voice
communications. The mobile wireless
communication was possible only by after
introducing 1G technology. Basically it was
a network that have capable of making
only voice calls.
2G TECHNOLOGY
2G stands for 'second generation', as it's
the second type of mobile phone
technology. The first commercial 2G
networks were introduced in 1991. 2G
introduced data services for mobile,
starting with SMS messages. It also meant
that digitally-encrypted phone
conversations were possible.
3G TECHNOLOGY
3G is the third generation of the mobile
cellular network. It was designed to meet
the growing desire to be more connected
through technology, as devices using this
would be able to send and receive data
much faster than its predecessor, 2G and
connect you to the internet wherever you
are. 3G enabled many more features and
applications to be possible.
4G/4G LTE TECHNOLOGY
4G, or Fourth Generation, is a wireless
communication technology that provides
high-speed data transmission for mobile
devices, offering faster internet speeds and
improved network reliability compared to
its predecessors. LTE, or Long-Term
Evolution, is a specific type of 4G
technology that delivers even faster data
speeds and lower latency, making it ideal
for bandwidth-intensive applications like
video streaming and online gaming.
5G TECHNOLOGY
What is 5G technology?
5G is the fifth generation of wireless cellular
technology, offering higher upload and
download speeds, more consistent
connections, and improved capacity than
previous networks. 5G is much faster and
more reliable than the currently popular 4G
networks and has the potential to transform
the way we use the internet to access
applications, social networks, and
information.
CHARACTERISTICS OF 5G TECHNOLOGY
CHARACTERISTICS OF 5G NETWORK

• HIGH SPEED: 5G networks offer significantly faster data speeds compared to 4G

LTE and other previous generations. With theoretical peak speeds reaching up to
10 gigabits per second (Gbps), users can download and upload large files, stream
high-definition videos, and enjoy responsive online gaming experiences.

• LOW LATENCY: One of the most crucial characteristics of 5G is its ultra-low

latency, which refers to the time it takes for data to travel between devices. With
latency reduced to as low as one millisecond, 5G enables real-time
communication and interaction, making it suitable for applications such as
autonomous vehicles, remote surgery, and industrial automation.
CHARACTERISTICS OF 5G NETWORK

• HIGH CAPACITY: 5G networks have a much higher capacity to support a large

number of connected devices simultaneously. This capacity is essential for the
proliferation of Internet of Things (IoT) devices and smart city initiatives, where
numerous devices need to communicate with each other seamlessly.

• ENHANCED CONNECTIVITY: 5G technology utilizes a wider range of frequencies,

including higher frequencies such as millimeter waves, to transmit data. This
broad spectrum allows for more efficient use of available bandwidth and better
connectivity in densely populated areas.
CHARACTERISTICS OF 5G NETWORK

• EDGE COMPUTING SUPPORT: 5G facilitates edge computing by bringing

processing power closer to the data source. This enables faster response times
for applications that require real-time data analysis, such as augmented reality
(AR), virtual reality (VR), and industrial automation.

• ENERGY EFFICIENCY: While offering higher speeds and lower latency, 5G

networks are designed to be more energy-efficient than their predecessors. This
is achieved through advanced technologies such as dynamic spectrum sharing,
which allows for better resource utilization and reduced power consumption.
IS 5G TECHNOLOGY AN EMERGING
TECHNOLOGY OR NOT?
IS 5G TECHNOLOGY AN EMERGING
TECHNOLOGY OR NOT?

5G is indeed considered an emerging technology. 5G as the

fifth generation of cellular networking technology, highlighting
its high-speed connectivity, low latency, and massive device
support, which align with characteristics typically associated
with emerging technologies. It also describe 5G as the next
generation of wireless technology, emphasizing its
transformative potential to enable new services and
applications across various industries.
