1 Scope
This Technical Supply Specification (TL standard) specifies the material requirements for micro-
alloyed hot rolled strip-36, fine grain grade, for superior forming properties during pressing,
e.g., engine carriers.

2 Description
Micro-alloyed hot rolled strip according to TL 1114

3 Requirements

3.1 General requirements

Approval of first supply and changes according to Volkswagen standard VW 011 55.
Avoidance of hazardous substances according to VW 911 01.

3.2 Smelting process

Electric steel-making process or basic oxygen steel-making process

3.3 Teeming method December 2008

R (killed) Changes
The following changes have been made as compared to the
TL 1114:2004-02 issue: Note for restricted usage added
3.4 Shape of application
Hot-rolled strip Do not use for new designs and drawing
changes.

3.5 Type of delivery

3.5.1 General
As ordered.

3.5.2 For rear axle carrier

Strip with mill edges from ingot casting or continuous casting with mill edges or slit continuous
casting that, after the separation of an initial cross section (A), was rerolled in caliber to
a semifinished product cross section (B) and then rolled out to the final dimensions. The following
specifications apply here:
ņ Surface ratio A:B ≥ 3.5
ņ B must be at least (180 × 180) mm
ņ The slit continuous casting edge must become the strip surface (can be checked via
segregation etching).

3.6 Chemical composition in weight percent

See Table 1.

1) The amount of additive is determined by the fine grain effect to be attained (≈ 0.1% Ti; ≈ 0.05% Nb; ≈ 0.08% Zr).
If only one element is to be used, the abbreviation for this element shall be placed after the TL number (e.g. TL 1114 Ti).

3.7 Microstructure and physical properties

3.7.1 Surface
Surface free of coarse pores, splinters and rolling marks (according to DIN EN 10130, surface
finish A).

3.7.2 Grain size

7 to 12 according to DIN EN ISO 643.

3.7.3 Density
7.85 kg/dm3

No. Property Unit Requirement
1 Tensile strength
General N/mm2 500 to 600
For rear axle carrier N/mm2 520 to 620
2 Yield point N/mm2 ≥ 360
3 Elongation at break % ≥ 22 (L0 = 80 mm)
4 Bend test α = 180°
acc. to DIN EN ISO 7438 D = 0 · a (a = specimen thickness)
During bending, no crack shall form on
the side of the specimens subject to
tension.
