INTRODUCTION

The 21st century is referred to be the digital and internet era, with nearly everything
accessible via the World Wide Web. Internet services were first introduced in India in the
1980s. Since then, our nation has grown at an incredibly rapid rate. India is currently going
through a digitalization phase. People utilise digital technologies everywhere—in offices,
stores, and classrooms. With just a button press, digital technologies enable us to connect
with one another and the rest of the world. There are many changes happening in this world,
particularly in the field of technology. An attempt is also being made to modify the
technology in India. One such adjustment is the result of our esteemed15Prime Minister, Mr.

economic expansion, will promote advancements in service delivery and governance.
2. PILLARS OF DIGITAL INDIA

The Digital India plan encompasses various Ministries and Departments of the Government,
much like an umbrella. In order for each concept to25be implemented as a component of
larger goal, the Digital Programme aims bring together a multitude of concepts and
thoughts into a comprehensive and singular vision. While each component is independent,
they are all a part of the bigger image. 41The Department of Electronics and Information

several2Ministries
and Departments.
1)Broadband Highways.

High-speed broadband coverage highways link 250,000 villages, universities, and other

governme agencies as part of the Digital India Programme. Furthermore, the National
Information Infrastructure (NII) will integrate nation's cloud and network to
offer several government departments high-speed access. Networks like the MeghRaj Cloud,
State Wide Area Network (SWAN), Government User Network (GUN), National Knowledge

Netwo (NKN), a National Optical Fibre Network (NOFN) are among these components.

2) Universal access to Mobile Connectivity.

In India now, the are over 55,619 without mobile service. A significant endeavour
is being done under the Digital India scheme to cover all of these Indian villages with a
mobile network.

3) Public Internet Access Programme.

Making Common Service Centres (CSCs)—roughly 250000 of them—operational at the

gramme Panchayat level in order to provide government services is the fundamental idea
behind this platform. Additionally, 116 50,000 post offices going to transformed in

4)E-governance: Reforming government through technology.

By using business process re-engineering, this programme will change and simplify
government procedures while increasing their automation and efficiency. Additionally, the
form will be simplified so that just the most essential data is gathered. In a similar vein,
application forms can be followed online to determine their status. In order to avoid
submitting physical documents to the office, online repositories for ID proofs, degrees, and
certificates of education will also be used.
5)E Kranti - Electronic Delivery of Services.

6) Information for all.

This is to enable free and unrestricted access to internet government papers and information.
Through social media and online channels, there will be two-way communication between
the government and the populace. My Gov.in, a platform for citizen interaction in
governance, is the biggest success story. 28It was introduced on July 26, 2014, by

3. INITIATIVES OF DIGITAL INDIA

1) E-Pathshala: Transforming Learning through

The Ministry of Human Resource launched the E- campaign to

encourage "learning on go"

government organisations, and lessen the stress associated with compliances.

3)My Gov platform

The Indian public can communicate thoughts and proposals to the Indian government using
my government platform. Through this programme, the Indian public provides the
government with suggestions, opinions, and ideas for new policies and programmes like
Swachh Bharat and Digital India Made in India, among others.

space. This store is connected to the Aadhar (UIDAI) number of the corresponding account
holder to make things simple. Individuals who have registered with the Digital Locker system
have the ability to upload electronic copies of certificates and documents (such as driver's
licences, voter IDs, and school certificates) straight into the accounts associated with those
8
lockers. There are 39,64,008 registered users and 50,47,204 uploaded documents,
according
to the official website.

6) e-Sampark

Vernacular email service: Of the 10% of Indians who speak English as a first language, only
2% live in rural areas. Everyone else relies on their colloquial lingo. Email addresses can
only be generated in English at this time. The Government of India requested major email
service providers, such as Rediff and Gmail, to offer email addresses in regional vernacular
languages in order to link rural India with Digital India. The major email service providers
are proceeding with the same procedure and have showed encouraging signals. Under the
moniker "DATAMAIL," an Indian business called 32Data Xgen Technologies Pvt Ltd
has
introduced the first free linguistic account globally. It permits the creation of email
addresses in eight Indian languages and three other languages (English, Russian, Arabic, and
Chinese). Data Xgen Technologies will offer email services in 22 different languages
throughout that time.

4. OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES OF DIGITAL INDIA

Opportunities.

1. The electronic delivery of government services will greatly increase public accountability.

2. The primary characteristic of our nation, the corruption system, will come to an end37as a
result of the Digital India

3. Because of
digit India, there would be less paperwork, saving trees and preserving the
environment.

4.The National Scholarship portal has been introduced as part the Digital
Programme, which will eliminate the need for students to go through the convoluted process
of submitting their applications, verifying them, sanctioning them, and then disbursing the
funds to the final recipient of government scholarships in India.

5. The Internet use of the village people would lead to a significant increase in knowledge
among India's rural populace.

6. Nearly every Indian resident would have a bank account23as a result of the Digital India
initiative.
Challenges.

1) population is diverse in terms of language, customs, laws, dietary preferences,

T of
and culture. The digital India initiative will bring about national integration. 14One of the
biggest to the India objective in the upcoming years will be the merging of
language and technology to finish this integration process.

2) Depending on the software and hardware used, different states in India use different
internet protocols, which increases the likelihood of connectivity issues and other hiccups.
Consequently, it is imperative to standardise all software protocols.

3) There are numerous government departments in India. The primary goal40of Digital India is
to transform nation into economy that is empowered by technology. This will not be a
simple undertaking, as appropriate coordination and cooperation across all government
ministries will be required. The reality of Digital India will not be achieved until these
departments collaborate effectively with one another.

4. Universal access to 8public internet is one of the main tenets of digital India. However, the
biggest challenges in India are illiteracy and poverty. The high prevalence of illiteracy in
India is a significant obstacle to the country's internet penetration.

5) In India Internet usage and cybercrime go hand in hand. The digital India initiative should
make sure that all papers posted online by citizens are properly authenticated and made
available to the appropriate person at the appropriate time. India needs to create privacy
regulations in order to prevent cybercrime.

6) The National Optical Fibre Network will be utilised, guaranteeing that broadband
coverage reaches every corner of the nation. Getting a broadband link over the entire nation is
no small feat.
CONCLUSION

India's digital vision is vast. A significant step towards creating an empoweredcountry is

Digital India. If this initiative is effective, providing Indian residents with access to

multimedia information, content, and will undoubtedly change the country. There are
many prospects for the Digital India programme, however we must acknowledge that the
majority of the nine pillars are having difficulty being implemented, meaning that the
program's aim is still far off. To ensure that this programme is successful, it is imperative that
each and every pillar receive constant, concentrated attention. As Indian citizens, we really
should mentally get ready for this significant shift and be prepared to confront the difficulties
that come with putting this programmer into practise. Only then will the programmer's vision
be realised.Benefits of digitization include 36innovation, convenience of work, new
prospects, and economic growth. As a result, there is a decrease in tax evasion, the parallel
economy, and other problems and the system becomes more open. This leads us to the
conclusion that the new technology needs to be used that access to it the skill to
well,
and
utilise it successfully are prerequisites. India's transformation into a well-informed society
and information economy is a dream. India's development efforts are commendable. 4The
digital India initiative has big impact India to make sure that every citizen has the best
future imaginable, despite certain challenges. Indians and other people 5should work together
to develop the knowledge economy. drive to create a computerised India is a positive
step towards transforming India into a 21st-century nation driven by accessibility and
mechanical open doors. A well-enabled economy uses its capital and human resources more
effectively, which leads to much faster, more successful, and more proficient growth. With so
many people resources at its disposal, India can grow at a rate never seen before and overtake
established countries if its full potential is realised.
