Synopsis

The course is aimed to cover the electrical wiring system based on the Electricity Supply Act 1990 and The
Electricity Regulation 1994. It is intended to ensure that participant are conversant with the basic guidelines for
electrical wiring system and to provide participants with a sufficient level of competence so that they will be able
to work safely, efficiently and legally on electrical installations. Under the Electricity Supply Act 1990 and
Electricity Regulations 1994, any electrical wiring in domestic dwellings are to be carried out by a competent
person. A competent person is someone who is approved by Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga); the
Malaysian governing bodies, whom will be qualified with the ability to thoroughly check a wiring system for
safety. They are required to issue an Electrical Installation Certificate that complies with Building Regulation
requirements when the works has been completed.

Ir Yap Chee Wah

Ir. Yap Chee Wah, IEM/BEM Pt. 2, P.ENG, MIEM is a Professional Engineer registered with the Board of
Engineers Malaysia. He has more than 10 years of experience in the electrical consultancy services. He is
experienced in housing, commercial, SREP and Feed-In-Tariff(F.I.T.) projects of different sizes and
complexities. The example of projects he involved are Mixed Township Development at Bdr. Bkt. Beruntung,
Government Office Building Lot 5G2 Putrajaya, UiTM Jengka Pahang, 1MW & 3.2MW Power Generation by
Landfill Gas at Bkt. Tagar, Electrical Cabling Works Identification and Related Tests of Existing Electrical
Installation for Data Centre at Affin Bank. In the 1MW & 3.2MW power generation projects at Bkt Tagar, Ir. Yap
has experience the design, installation, testing and commissioning and operating the LV, 11KV and 33KV
distribution and transmission network. His involvements includes but not limited to tendering & bidding, contract
management, engineering & project management, construction, procurement, quality assurance, Factory
Acceptance Test, Pre-Commissioning and Commissioning.

Ir. Yap has registered with Jabatan Pembangunan Kemahiran of Kementerian Sumber Manusia, Malaysia as
Pakar Industri(PIND), Panel NOSS(PNOSS), Pegawai Pengesah Luaran(PPL), Pegawai Pengesah Luaran-
Sistem Latihan Dwi Nasinal(PPL-SLDN), Pegawai Penilai Pengiktirafan Pencapaian Terdahulu (PPL-PPT), Sijil
Kemahiran Malaysia (SKM) tahap 2 & 3 (Electrical).

Prior to passing his IEM/BEM Pt. 2 graduate examination, Ir. Yap worked as a production executive in a
production assembly lines, controlling and managing the day to day production operation in the assembly
department. During this period, Ir. Yap has undergone several training courses as to upgrade the skill and
knowledge which are beneficial to his workplace such as Good Manufacturing Practices for Shopfloor
Improvement, Poka Yoke Mistake Proofing, Effective Supervisors, ISO 9000: Documentation and
Implementation, Supervisory Method And Effectiveness (PSME) From AOTS, JAPAN.

After completing his secondary high school, Ir. Yap started his technical education in Institute Latihan
Perindustrian(ILP), Kuala Lumpur. As a part-time student, he further pursued his electrical engineering diploma,
higher diploma, City & Guilds (803) in Institute Megatech, Kuala Lumpur.

Ir. Yap is also a Registered Wireman NIL(PW4) with Suruhanjaya Tenaga. During the employment with a
contractor firm, Ir. Yap worked as a Project Engineer. He has gained the experiences of hands-on wiring works
in different industries.
