To sum up this experience, I can say that this experience was truly an inspiring and humbling one. I felt grateful that
I could bring a change, even though it was a minor one, into the lives of these young children. As an individual, I had
always taken my privilege for granted but this semester changed me as a person, too.
This internship challenged me in multiple ways. This helped me improve my communication skills, gave me the
confidence to give long lectures without any distractions or interruptions, indirectly made me a better public speaker.
I also learnt about managing time so the syllabus I taught went hand-in-hand with the syllabus being taught by their
teachers.
Critical thinking, patience, organization, imaginative thinking, leadership, teamwork, technological skills, conflict
resolution, personality development, and resource utilization skills have all improved because of my involvement with
the club. And I am convinced that all these skills will be helpful in the future.
Overall, I’m glad I got the opportunity to do this internship. It really helped develop my personality and skill-set in
multiple ways.

I, along with a team of Fine Arts Club members from BMSCE, went to Kodichikkanahalli Government School on 14 th
February 2021. Our job there was to paint the classrooms and make them attractive for students to get interest in the
subjects and learn better. Each classroom had a subject as a theme. I was assigned the Science Classroom. Along with
other volunteers, we decided how to paint the classroom. Our idea was that if the children can see people to take
inspiration from, they would have the curiosity to learn more taking them as an example. Hence, we painted a cartoon
version of five great scientists of all time- Thomas Alva Edison, Isaac Newton, Albert Einstein, Stephen Hawking and
Galileo Galilei. This was a huge wall and took most of our time. We also painted a brick wall in the back of the
classroom. We made a simple illustration of a chemical reaction taking place. One wall was dedicated to space, one
was dedicated to biology. We worked really hard for this. By the end, the school looked very new and different. Each
wall of each classroom had something to learn from. We were really glad we could be a part of this project. We learnt
a lot about how the school runs, the need for a good environment and good teachers to provide a good education, the
lack of good schools in our country. Our hope is that no child, ever, has to choose to do work instead of going to
school, for whatever reason. Education isn’t a privilege, it is a necessity. We hope our activity attracted more students
to join the school and get the opportunity to learn and change their lives.

Sri Radha Krishna-Chandra Temple is one of the largest Krishna Hindu temples in the world, affiliated with ISKCON
Revival Movement. It is located at Rajajinagar, in North Bangalore in the Indian State of Karnataka. They had
organized an event to spread awareness about the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan. I went as a volunteer through the Fine
Arts Club of BMSCE. Our activity was to make a model of Raavana made of plastic, which conveyed the message
that plastic is the villain when it comes to our environment. It was a two-day activity. The first day went in giving
shape to the models and the second day in adding colours and detailing. During my time there, I learnt quite a lot
about how the temple runs, about how Akshaya Patra, a meal service by ISKCON, served food on a daily basis
to 18,00,907 children in 52 kitchens across 12 States & 2 Union Territory of India. Overall, it was a very fun and
educational experience.

I went for painting the walls on a street in Nagarbhavi, along with some members of the Fine Arts Club of BMSCE.
We volunteered along with an NGO called “Let’s Be The Change” who worked tirelessly to implement the Swachh
Bharat Abhiyaan. The residents of the neighborhood dumped the waste generated from their homes on the footpaths
of the road, which became the breeding ground for many insects and bacteria. The people of the NGO took the
initiative to clean the garbage from there. They decided to beautify the surroundings to avoid people coming back to
their old ways and making the footpath a dumping ground again. The artworks we did on the walls were to express
our gratitude to the COVID warriors, who fought, and still continue to fight against this deadly virus everyday. We
are grateful for their service, and this was a small way of showing it. Through this activity, we learnt a lot about how
the NGO works, the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan and why it is necessary to avoid health hazards, in the immediate future
and the long run. We also learnt how to work in a team. If a small group like ours could make such a difference in
such a short period of time, then imagine the impact of the nation coming together to do their bit. In these troubling
times, we recognized the need to respect and acknowledge the sacrifices of these COVID warriors, who put their lives
at risk on a daily basis, just to protect us and our loved ones. We learnt how to draw inspiration from them, that
whatever be the situation, we must face it bravely, and head-on. I’m truly grateful to have been part of this experience.

The initiative of this competition was to educate us about the different types of cultures in our country. As this was a
collaboration between the states of Karnataka and Uttarakhand, it focused on the cultures of these states. The
participants were given two days to learn as much about these cultures, think out of the box and make an artwork
showing either one of the cultures or both the cultures. I learnt a lot about the culture, cuisine, dance, music, attires,
history and language of the two states. It was very informative, and enjoyable at the same time.

During my vacations, I volunteered for an NGO based in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh called Help Social Welfare Society.
Help Social Welfare Society is a group of like-minded people who strongly believe in having a ‘Helping ’ attitude and
work towards improving the society. Their efforts are majorly focused on various social issues, which need attention
and action in order to create a better society, a better State and a better India for future generation and ourselves. They
work to promote health awareness among the masses to lead a healthy lifestyle. In one way or another, they also try
to spread awareness about the effects of air pollution and various ways to reduce it. They have organized various
campaigns where we help the needful in a way and educate people about pollutions, and hunger eradication,
healthcare, employment and education.

I got the opportunity to volunteer for this NGO as a social media intern. My duty was to spread the word about the
wonderful work that they do, increase their follower count on various social networking sites, mainly Instagram and
Facebook, and help collect donations from different people.

In my one week, I managed to get 29 followers on Instagram and 15 followers on Facebook. I collected Rs. 200 as
donations. The main causes I helped for was Menstrual Hygiene. The funds collected went towards buying sanitary
napkins and other hygiene products for under privileged women.

This experience was an empowering one. It taught me a lot about the need to stop treating menstruation as a “taboo”
subject and start speaking up about it. I’m glad I could be a part of this NGO.

This webinar was conducted to educate us about one of the deadliest diseases in the world- Cancer. We learnt about
the different types of cancers, various symptoms to detect it at an early stage, different methods of treatment, and
the need to spread awareness about it in a country like India. In India, and many other countries, speaking or
discussing cancer is still considered taboo and this perception is in dire need of a change. Always remember cancer
awareness is the first step towards cancer prevention. We must come across survivors sharing their journey by
means of speech of cancer awareness. It can be of great benefit to know about the disease beforehand as it will
keep you wary of any signs or symptoms you might come across and bring the same to the notice of your physician
immediately. This will help in preventing or fighting cancer more effectively. Overall, I learnt a lot about this
disease.

This webinar was held to teach us about Road Safety. In today’s era, road accidents are rampant. However, mortality
rates have come down significantly due to improvements in automobile technology. Nevertheless, there are many
potential hazards on the road that can cause injuries or even death. Potential hazards can range from bad road behaviour
to road dynamics or even bad infrastructure. Behaviour such as drunk-driving, exceeding speed limits and general
rash driving contributes significantly to road accidents. Furthermore, ignoring road signs which provide important
information – such as crossroads or intersection can also be the leading cause in vehicular accidents. Even maintenance
of the vehicle plays an important role in road safety. For instance, many car accidents are the result of the tire blowouts
– which occur when the tires are underinflated and driven beyond their operational life. We are, as individuals and as
a society, responsible in avoiding road accidents.

I had an opportunity to participate in this initiative organised by the Women Cell of BMSCE which included a
walkathon and a seminar. This helped spread awareness to people who do not understand the meaning of women
empowerment and assume something that is untrue. In a field like engineering, where there are comparatively lesser
women, it was very inspiring to see our college take up this initiative. The major learning from this initiative was the
need for empowering women to participate fully in all aspects of life to build stronger economics, and improve the
quality of life for families and communities. We need to promote equality between women and men in all aspects of
economic, social and political life. It includes raising their status through education, awareness, literacy, safety and
training. It also includes the authority to take decisions. When a woman makes a crucial decision, she feels empowered.
Women's empowerment is the most crucial point for the overall development of a country.
