4. A swimming pool measures 20 m 40 cm in length and 14 m 70 cm in width.
Determine the least possible number of square tiles required to cover the pool floor,
assuming the tiles are of the same size.( Ans: 3332)
5. A gardener is planting flowers in rows. He plants roses every 9 day s, lilies every 12
days, and tulips every 15 days. If he plants all three types of flowers today, after
how many days will he plant them together again? ( Ans: LCM= 180 days)
6. Rachel has 240 red candies and Maya has 180 green candies. They want to arrange
the candies in such a way that each row contains equal number of candies and also
each row should have only red candies or green candies.
(a) What is the greatest number of candies that can be arranged in each row?
(b) Hence find the number of rows required to arrange each type of candy?

Polynomials

7. Find the quadratic polynomial whose zeroes are (𝑖)√5 + 2 and √5 − 2.

(Ii)5+ 2√3 and 5- 2√3(iii) √3 and - √3

8. If 𝛼 and 𝛽 are the zeroes of the polynomial 𝑥 2 − 4𝑥 + 3, find the values of

(a) 𝛼 +𝛽- 𝛼𝛽
1 1
(b) 𝛼 + 𝛽
9. Find the zeroes of the quadratic polynomial 2𝑥 2 − 9𝑥 − 5 and verify the relationship
between the zeroes and the coefficients of the polynomial.
2−3√5
10. Given that √5 is irrational, prove that is irrational.

11. If the product of the zeroes of the polynomial p(x)=(k-1)x² +(3k-2)x+(2+ 5k) is -2, then
find the sum of its zeroes. Also find the zeroes of the polynomial
Pair of Linear Equations in Two Variables
12. Find the value of k for which the equations 3x+4y=5 and kx-4y=6 represent
intersecting lines.
13. The pair of linear equations (3k + 1)x + 3y – 5 = 0 and 2x – 3y + 5 = 0 have infinite
number of solutions. Then determine the value of k.
14. Solve for x: 37𝑥 + 43𝑦 = 123; 43𝑥 + 37𝑦 = 117
15. Solve for x and y 133x+ 87y=353 and 87x+133y=307
16. The ratio of incomes of two persons is 9:7 and the ratio of their expenditures is 4:3. If each
of them saves Rs 200 per month, find their monthly incomes.
17. A father’s age is three times the sum of the ages of his two children. After 5 years,
his age will be two times the sum of their ages. Find the present age of the father.
18. The students of a class are made to stand in rows. If 3 students are extra in a row,
there would be 1 row less. If 3 students are less in a row, there would be 2 rows
more. Find the number of students in the class.
19. Find c if the system of equations cx + 3y + (3 – c) = 0 and 12x + cy – c = 0 has
infinitely many solutions.

Quadratic Equations
20. Find the nature of roots of the quadratic equation 2x2 – 4x + 3 = 0.
21. If the quadratic equation m𝑥 2 + 2x + m = 0 has equal roots then what are the values
of m? Hence find the roots of the quadratic equation.
22. A student scored a total of 32 marks in class tests in mathematics and science. Had he
scored 2 marks less in science and 4 more in mathematics, the product of his marks
would have been 253. Find his marks in two subjects.
23. In a flight of 600 Km, an aircraft was slowed down due to bad weather. Its average
speed for trip was reduced by 200 Km/h and the time increased by 30 minutes. Find
the duration of flight.
24. A car covers a distance of 400 km at a certain speed. Had the speed been 12 km/h more,
the time taken for the journey would have been 1 hour 40 minutes less. Find the
original speed of the car.
