ASSERTIVENESS ACTIVITY

1. A person cuts ahead in a line that you have been waiting in

Assertive response: Excuse me, there is a line here and I have been waiting for my turn
patiently. So kindly do the same and fall in line just like everyone else.

2. A friend expects you to pay for dinner for the second time in a row
Assertive response: It's really nice to treat you sometimes, but let's make sure we all pay our
fair share. How about this time, we spilt the bill?

3. A salesperson is attempting to pressure you to buy something you do not want

Assertive response: I appreciate your eagerness to make a sale, but I'm not really interested in
buying anything at this moment. Please understand and respect my decision, thank you.

4. You are in a restaurant and the one sitting beside you is smoking.
Assertive response: I'm sorry the smell of cigarette bothers me and makes me uncomfortable.
Would you mind putting out your cigarette or go to the designated smoking area instead?

5. You're in a group discussion. One groupmate of yours is insisting on his/her idea but
you aware that it's not feasible.
Assertive response: I admire your participation and understand your point of view, but given
the information at hand, I think we should look at other possibilities that might be more
practical for achieving our group's objectives
